Needs help with Microsoft Dynamics Ax 2012, installation and configuration.
Any info will be helpful, totally new to this technology.
My Personal notes:
You need to download the Dynamics ax on a Windows server 2008 r2 or windows server 2012.
While checking requisites, if you have an error with a configure check box enabled, use this check box to let the system automatically solve the issue for you.
When installing SQL server, note to enable the following features:
-Data Base engine services
-Full text search
-Analysis services
-Reporting services
-Business Intelligence
-Management tools basic
-Management tools Complete
-SQL client connectivity SDK
-Microsoft Sync features
Installing Core System:
A core Microsoft Dynamics AX system consists of
-an instance of an Application Object Server (AOS),
-an application file server,
-a database,
-and at least one client.
These components can be installed on computers arranged in a variety of topologies, but without all elements your system will not run.
For more info http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa548645(v=ax.10).aspx
In order to install Dynamics ax 2012 you need to have:
Database: DB server can be on a dedicated box or on the same machine. For production purposes recommended to have a dedicated machine.
I installed Microsoft SQL server 2008 r2 as the database engine.
Prerequisites check:
When checking the prerequisites, the SQL Full text search service is required.
If not installed on your SQL server, you have to add this feature to the existing SQL instance, to do so, please follow the steps in the link below:

Server Components
-Application Object Server (AOS)
-Web server components
-Enterprise Portal (EP)
-Enterprise Search
-Helper Server
You need to have the server components; you can have one AOS or multiple AOSs, which will speed up the operation, and allows you to have more clustered environment.
EP gives you similar functionality to the client application over the web
Enterprise Search gives you the capability to find different info in your environment using a client utility or enterprise portal

I am in the process to migrate an old BTS 2006 application in BTS 2016.
It works fine but I have a problem with CI script migration using Jenkins. My Jenkins script call BtsControl command to stop a given BizTalk application. BTSControl.exe was a BizTalk Application Deployment Tool for Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006, described as the companion tool to BTSTask.exe. It was an open source development and I don't find its equivalent in BizTalk 2016.
So how can I stop a given BizTalk application with BizTalk 2016 (by script, of course)?
We have a project to complete that involves using an Old Existing Web Application developed and deployed with following technologies:
-.NET Framework 4
-developed Using Visual Studio 2010 (VS2010)
-Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise (Service Pack 1)
-IIS Version 7.5
8 GB RAM
-Telerik\RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX Q3 2011
We have a new project that involves creating a Csv File uploader for the web application.
Our proposed plan was to UI uploader Csv File Uploader component on the Old Existing Web Application.
However, we Want to use Newer technology for the main quasi-ETL processing of the Csv Data.
As we Brainstorm, we came up with the following technologies that could be used for the main quasi-ETL processing of Csv Data.
.NET Core (3.X or 2.X)
Visual Studio 2019
However, we have to deploy the Old Existing Web Application ( which would contain the UI Csv File Uploader) and the new main quasi-ETL processing of Csv Data to the same Web Server which would mean using the following slightly old technologies:
-Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise (Service Pack 1)
-IIS Version 7.5
-8 GB RAM
I'm in the process of developing a - .NET Core (3.X or 2.X) Web application, and deploying it in an environment that uses:
-Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise (Service Pack 1)
-IIS Version 7.5
Please Keep in mind that both the Old Web Application and the New .NET Core application will be deployed on the same IIS Server 7.5
The Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Server & IIS Server hosts a lot of important applications so I am concerned about what kind of modifications/update/add-on that I might have need to install.
-Does anyone know about any possible technical compatibility problems or troubles that I might face? If yes, what could it be?
-To elaborate, within the Control Panel's "Turn Windows Feature on or off", could you please tell me what might need to be enabled for .NET Core (3.X or 2.X)( with Web API) to work on said IIS Version 7.5?
-Also, may I please know if I have to install any Microsoft module executable ( or something similar)?
-Also, please feel free to suggest improvements Or tell me about any pitfalls/obstacles that I might face.
in our company we still have SQL Server 2008 R2.
We use BIDS.
Can we use SSDT 2013? Is it a free tool? Or it needs a license?
Could not find this info on Microsoft site.
If it´s free, I need something to show Directors Board that we are not having problem using it.
Thanks!
First there is a difference between SSDT and SSDT-BI. SSDT is the database projects which lets you manage t-sql. SSDT-BI is for ssis, ssas, ssrs projects.
SSDT and SSDT-BI have merged to become one in the Visual Studio 2015 version but unless you are on sql 2012+ you will need to install the version of SSDT-BI that you need for your sql. If you are on sql 2008 r2 then that is actually SSDT-BI predecessor "BIDS".
If you are using SSDT-BI (or BIDS) just run the installer that comes with the version of SQL you are targetting and install from there, these are free and you pay a license to use the server (unless it is express ahhhhh).
If you are looking at SSDT database projects, then it is a little bit complicated in that SSDT itself is free but it is hosted inside visual studio so your options are:
Free as in no license cost
SSDT in Visual Studio Shell
If you do not have visual studio installed when you download SSDT it will install the visual studio shell which is a limited version of visual studio.
SSDT (DB tools) in Visual Studio Express
If you download and install Visual Studio Express you will get a copy of SSDT database tools (no BI). Downloading a later copy of SSDT will install it into Visual Studio Express.
Express and shell are limited in that you cannot add add-ins (vspackages) to them but they functionally work.
Not Free as in require a license
SSDT in Visual Studio Pro / Ent
If you already have visual studio professional or enterprise installed you will need a license for that. They ship with a version of SSDT and downloading the latest SSDT will install into it.
Free as in doesn't require a license but does have restrictions
SSDT in Visual Studio Community Edition
Visual Studio community edition is the same as professional but it is for community projects or small companies (current requirements, no idea if these ever change):
For organizations
An unlimited number of users within an organization can use Visual
Studio Community for the following scenarios: in a classroom learning
environment, for academic research, or for contributing to open source
projects.
For all other usage scenarios: In non-enterprise organizations, up to
five users can use Visual Studio Community. In enterprise
organizations (meaning those with >250 PCs or >$1 Million US Dollars
in annual revenue), no use is permitted beyond the open source,
academic research, and classroom learning environment scenarios
described above.

Yes. It is free. All versions of SSDT are free as I can remember.

"
SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT) is a modern development tool that you can download for free to build SQL Server relational databases, Azure SQL databases, Integration Services packages, Analysis Services data models, and Reporting Services reports. With SSDT, you can design and deploy any SQL Server content type with the same ease as you would develop an application in Visual Studio.
This release supports SQL Server 2016 through SQL Server 2005, and provides the design environment for adding features that are new in SQL Server 2016.
SSDT is based on Visual Studio and co-released with SQL Server as a free web download.

I am using Windows 7 (x64bit) Ultimate.
I have both ODBC32 and ODBC64 Managers that I can access via Start.
The default appears to be the ODBC64.
However I do not see MSDASQL -Microsoft OLEDB for ODBC listed.
I wonder if it exists. I see some references to 64Bit MSDASQL for Windows Server 2003.
The IBM 64bit for ODBC seems to work (I heard) but not tried.
Now I would like to know if any one knows the link for 64-bit MSDASQL for Windows 7. Microsoft seems to have deprecated MSDASQL and I am not sure of the status of this story.
These issues came up while setting up a linked server in SQL Server 2012 for SQL (SAP) SqlAnywhere server.
I am not sure how I missed. This link allows you to download the Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13255
The details of this indicates both ODBC and OLEDB as copied from the Microsoft Web Site:
"This download will install a set of components that facilitate the transfer of data between existing Microsoft Office files such as Microsoft Office Access 2010 (*.mdb and .accdb) files and Microsoft Office Excel 2010 (.xls, *.xlsx, and *.xlsb) files to other data sources such as Microsoft SQL Server. Connectivity to existing text files is also supported. ODBC and OLEDB drivers are installed for application developers to use in developing their applications with connectivity to Office file formats. "
There is no MSDASQL x64 bit for Windows 7. There is one for Windows Server 2003. I finally was able to create a linked server in SQL Server 2012 Express using the SAOLEDB.16 from Sybase/SAP.
Although I replied myself that there is no MSDASQL(x64)based on some 'deprecated items' information I am still looking at it.
Here is a link to the same question on MSDN:

How to create (or select if already created) application pool during setup of the web application in InstallShield 2012 Spring LE? The application pool should have specific features to allow 32 bit applications, NETWORK SERVICE user account.
InstallShield 2012 Limited Edition is very crippled compared to InstallShield 2012 Professional edition with regards to IIS ASP.NET configuration (and other things).
So either upgrade to Pro or "augment" InstallShield using merge modules authored with Windows Installer XML. WiX has an IIS extension that can do what you want. See the following blog article for a related high level overview:
