Booting up Teradata express VM using VirtualBox - teradata

I downloaded the Teradata express VM today. But I don't use vmware... i use virtual box instead. I created a new VM and added all the vmdk disk files to virtual box.
but it is throwing error could not find /dev/disk/by-label/ROOT-BE1. Want me to fall back to /dev/disk/by-path/pci-0000:00
does anyone know how to boot the vm image with virtual box?

I have the same problem, with the same message. The same mistake.
The solution is simple. Just change the Storage Controler to SCSI. After this, restart the VM and it will start normally, but in command line.
I try, but i can't run the startx command...

Try adding IDE controller and then add the disk as existing hard disk device. This should let you boot into the OS.

I saw this exact error when trying to load the VM in KVM. What seemed to fix it was selecting 'single user mode' in the grub menu. After booting like this once, selecting the default grub option subsequently allowed the VM to boot further than this error.
Note that I haven't been able to successfully bring up the actual database yet - the service doesn't start automatically, and when I start it manually, it reboots the VM, bringing me back to the same state as before. Maybe you'll have more luck with VirtualBox?

Cosmos DB Emulator won't start on Windows 10

I’m recieving this error when I try to start Cosmos Emulator 2.7.2.0:
Tried it on a fresh win10 machine, and it's working here. Any ideas on what might course this?
I tried all the suggestions in this article.
Looking at the etl file didn't give my anything either.
It's the first time I try to install it on my machine.

Seems like something is wrong with my version of msvcr80
This may be caused by corrupted performance counters on your machine.
To fix your performance counters try the following.
Open cmd as administrator
Run "lodctr /R" (must use capital R)
If this doesn't work, see this link here that shows other options to reset your counters. Older article but works the same on Windows 10.

For me this confusing error message simply meant that I needed to use another port! Or fix problems with the default 8081 one (read update 2 way below).

Details:
In my case this happened by itself after Windows 10 updated 2004. I swear something breaks in Cosmos DB emulator every feature update!
For me there were no crash dumps and rebuilding performance counters didn't help. In the Event Viewer for System I've noticed this error A LOT:
Unable to bind to the underlying transport for 127.0.0.1:8081. The IP Listen-Only list may contain a reference to an interface which may not exist on this machine. The data field contains the error number.
No solutions for this error helped, so I first used netstat -ao to see if any program is already listening at 8081. Nope.
Then I used the "Port listener" utility from the www, and it turned out it can't listen to 8081 either, not even under admin rights!
Since I couldn't fix this 8081 problem at all & turning off Windows Firewall didn't help, I simply started the Cosmos DB emulator at a different port and it worked!
C:\Program Files\Azure Cosmos DB Emulator>Microsoft.Azure.Cosmos.Emulator.exe /Port=18001
If you've configured cosmos db to be started automatically on system startup, make sure to update that script as well.
In my case this cmdline got me into the Data explorer, but it wasn't actually working. The "Explorer" part of it was "fetching offers" infinitely. I had to again uninstall Cosmos DB emulator, clean this folder: %LOCALAPPDATA%\CosmosDBEmulator, reboot, install again without starting at 8081, and only start at the new port.
Cosmos DB devs, you're awesome people, but this is too much hassle. And if you can't use the port just say so, you don't have to be cryptic!
UPDATE:
This worked, but I forgot to update the start up script to use the new port, and noticed that after one more reboot the cosmos db started on 8081 without issues. What??! But it wasn't just any old reboot - I already did several of them before and they didn't help. This reboot may have been special in that it came after Windows found one more update (kb4576478), probably realizing it's now needed since I'm at version 2004, installed it, and THAT reboot (or the kb4576478 update specifically) fixed the 8081 problem, whatever it was. Yikes!
UPDATE 2:
Had another port-related problem with another tool. Ugh. Found this solution (see "General workaround") https://superuser.com/a/1568476/251491 This page's accepted answer also mentions the magic of multiple reboots.
Finally got it working!
By using WinDbg and opening the dmp files %LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps, I found out that a dll called perf-MSSQL$SQLEXPRESS-sqlctr10.1.2531.0.dll was the root cause.
By deleting this in the %WINDIR%\System32 the error was "fixed" and I can now run the emulator.

client communication error on Virtual Machine running on cloudstack

I want to use terminal/console of ubuntu 14 installed on virtual machine running on cloudstack 4.6. I am able to use ubuntu 14 desktop normally but whenever I try to use the terminal from it, i get "Client communication error please retry later". Following is the screen shot of the error.

I am using college network behind a proxy server, could that be a problem ?
any suggestions ? Does anybody know where I am going wrong ?
Quickest way to troubleshoot this - on the browser window that houses the broken terminal, do a view source. In there you'll find a URL direct to your console proxy server. Copy and paste that URL into a new window and see if you can hit it directly. I'm guessing a firewall issue...

openstack how to prevent losing vms

I am using "devstack" to play with the openstack in my desktop.
I had configured several vms in my instance. What happened was couple of days ago there was a power failure which caused my desktop to power down(I didnt have a UPS) attached to it. This resulted in my losing all the vms since i didnt unstack.
One of the solution to prevent this from happening next time is using a UPS. Are there any other solutions that I can use to back the vms so that even if there is a power loss the vms will run if i just restart and do ./stack.sh
Create snapshot of VM
Instance snapshots are uploaded to Glance which will store them in /var/lib/glance/images on the controller node.
Backup this folder.
When there is a data lose occurs , just restore this folder and Launch new instance by boot from image. select the snapshot and click launch.
Devstack is a developer environment, it is not meant to recover from power losses.
You should consider using another all-in-one openstack installer which should support restarting the openstack services without losing state. For instance, you can use Redhat's packstack - https://openstack.redhat.com/Quickstart

Access Oracle 11g database remotely, windows xp server

for hours now I am struggling with this. I am complete newbie to Oracle DB 11g and its really to complicated for me :).
I have installed it and it's working properly. With SQL Developer I can connect on localhost, but its not working on other machines.
I HAVE TO USE NORMAL HOST - user/password access.
I am trying to use EM for editing, since i don't want to mess up. I have set it up to work remotely. Now... I was trying to configure listener to listen on my (even) internal network IP. But its not working. I have heard about editing TNSNAMES.ORA but I can't find them in EM.
Any help please? What should I do, I am completely confused and all the time I get
The Network Adapter could not establish the connection
In the listner.ora file under your network/admin folder, change
HOST = localhost to HOST = ComputerName.
It worked for me.
Use the netca tool to configure your listener.ora and tnsnames.ora files.
Make sure listener is up. Use tnsping tool to test connectivity.
Make sure to bounce listener after you make any changes to listener.ora. Go to windows services to restart listener.
Finally found easier solution.
Use Oracle Net Manager and add Listener on IP (of the machine) on the same port.
Restart, and it works.
Its the same as Venu's solution, but easier.

Test connection was NOT successful...Database not found of no system permission

I am having difficulty connecting to a existing Informix database. I am attempting to mimic the configuration that is present on another machine which currently works. By the way, that other machine is on the same network and it is accessing the DB through a tunnel, so I am pretty sure the issue isn't related to the network configuration.
Regardless, here are the steps that I took to try and make the connection
Downloaded clientsdk.3.50.TC9DE and installed this. The working machine uses 3.50.TC2DE, but I couldn't find the installer for that version. (Note that at first I tried using 3.50TC9, not sure if that makes a difference)
Matched the ODBC config in the new machine to the working machine
The working machine has a host name in the Host Name field. I assume this was allowed because the host was set to an IP in the hosts file. Regardless, I am using the IP.
Also I am using C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe to create the DSN
Made sure that the INFORMIXDIR and PATH directory were correct. as per http://www.dbforums.com/informix/694408-odbc-test-connection-not-successful.html#post2633932 I don't think the locales are the issue because they aren't set in the working machine's Setnet32. Also, I made sure that the locales matched in the ODBC environment settings.
Also, since my INFORMIXDIR is in C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\Informix\Client-SDK\bin I tried replacing Program Files (x86) with PROGRAM~2 and Client-SDK with CLIENT~1 to no avail.
Tried setting INFORMIXDIR directly in my system environment variables (outside of Setnet32)
Set DBPATH to match the working system in both the user and system environment variables.
Set INFORMIXSERVER to the server in both Setnet and the system environment variables.
Completely lowered the firewall on my machine.
I can ping and telnet into the server.

Tried this on Windows XP
Tested the ILogin demo. The result was a popup that stated Customer Records Found in the title bar with an empty text area field.
Reinstalled into C:\informix instead of C:\Program Files(x86)...
Rebooted after various steps.
At this point I am at a loss. Has anyone run into this? The only other things I can think of is that I am using Win7 64-bit (with 32 bit drivers) and that the driver is 9DE not 2DE.
Alright so half of the battle is over. I was able to get a "Test connection was successful" on my Win7 machine. We had a copy of the 2.90.TC6 driver available in our file server from way back. I installed it and it worked. So my guess is that the database I am working with isn't compatible with 3.50.TC9DE.
I guess my next course of action is to try and find an installer for 3.50.TC2DE so that I can match the production system.
