is it possible to control a desktop application by a web application - asp.net

I have developed a desktop application in c# which send SMS by using an api, It has two button controls 'Send SMS' and 'Stop SMS'. This application is running on a Microsoft SQL server 2008 R2 and I have assigned an Static IP also.
Now my question is that, can I access this application using a web application, means can I control both buttons functionality over web site if I create one and host is from the same server?

Yes. You can make your application to listen spesific port and your web app can send requests to that IP and Port.

As Mike said, actually you should be able to reuse the business logic codebase of your Desktop-Application.
But if this is no option, you also could use named pipes for communcation between the several processes, where you desktop application would be the server, that the wep application would connect to.

How to host VB ASP.NET webapp from a VB windows form application

I'm developing a windows form application which I want to host webapp to the LAN when the application first loads. From there I want to also have a database accessible over the same LAN connection so that I can post information and communicate between the 2 vb applications.
My question is how you think I would best host the web application from vb. Obviously I need to identify the network parameters so that I can find a port etc, but how should I go about hosting the webapp?
I only need it to go to the LAN and not to rest of the world.
Thanks

vb.net client server - connect to desktop app from website

Tools : VB.net (VS2010), MySQL
I've a client desltop application connecting to my asp.net (vb) website. The desktop app typically sends a request and web app (server) responds to it.
Now, for certain scenarios, I would like website to connect to the client app and sends some data. How do I do it ?
I know client-server app (desktop app to desktop app) but not sure whether this can be done from website to destop app.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
You could use SignalR Framework.
From asp.net website : "ASP.NET SignalR is a new library for ASP.NET developers that makes developing real-time web functionality easy. SignalR allows bi-directional communication between server and client. Servers can now push content to connected clients instantly as it becomes available. SignalR supports Web Sockets, and falls back to other compatible techniques for older browsers. SignalR includes APIs for connection management (for instance, connect and disconnect events), grouping connections, and authorization."

ASP.NET network issue

So i want to to create a web application using asp.net to connect to another application (for example a simple windows form) using sockets. The problem is i'm behind firewall and i don't have the authority to mess with the firewall settings, what other options can i do besides sockets?
My application is fairly simple, the web application will be hosted on the internet and has a "connect" button, when its click it establish connection with the windows form that is on another computer and display the message "Connected" if its connected. All this will be tested behind some kind of corporal firewall. How do i get around this?
The firewall is there specifically to stop this kind of thing.
The bestway around it would be to have the Forms app poll the server for connectivity - this can be made to look near real time by making the server receive the request, then wait until it gets a connect action, or time out after a few minutes and return nothing. Then the forms app would request again.
I think instead of using directly a web application, you should look forward to create a web service to solve both the purposes. You can have its reference in both of them. your Web Form will make a request to connect to the web service instead of application. That will solve both purposes.

send popup in desktop application from asp.net web page

I have a web application and on that application i update a sql database ...what i want is that when i update the database from the web application a notification will be sent to any one openening my application or a pop up appears to them on their desktop informing them that the database is updated to check all this will be in an intranet.
I'm using ASP.Net and I'm the admin for all the PCs in the network and the server.
Does anyone knows how i can do this ?
Build a desktop application that polls the database regularly or better write a HTTP/REST service where desktop application poll frequently.
What you need is a WCF duplex service your website and your windows clients connect to. With such a service you can use callback methods to inform your windows clients through the service. But be aware that this is normally an intranet and not an internet scenario because such an wcf binding has problems with internet infrastructure (Proxies, Firewalls, ...)

Is it possible to manipulate an asp.net web application cache from outside the web?

I have a situation very similar to the one in this question:
Selective Cache clearing across load balanced servers (ASP.Net)
The difference is that due to our hosting configuration, I am unable to address individual servers by IP address. Assuming I cannot access specific servers via web requests, is it possible to access the HttpContext of a web application running on the same machine? I'm thinking I could accomplish this with a windows service that I could address by machine name, or alternately a console application, I just don't know if I can gain access to the web application cache either way.
You can expose content of the WebCache of an app through some Remoting/WCF code built into the web app. I hope you can use localhost to access it from an app on the same box.
