Normally when I add a html piece to my site, it will create a box that lets me know it's there. It' finicky though and the box didnt show up. So I added the html again, and it didnt tell me it was there. So I published the website and then went to a few pages to see if it worked. It did, and now each page is being tracked multiple times. Then I had the bright idea to redo the tracking code and add that hoping the new code would only be seen once. Not only is it picking up the new code, but the old one as well. Each pageview is being seen as three.
And like I said, my html builder blocks are not showing up on my builder, so I cant get rid of them. Is there a way I can fix this, or do I have to delete my whole file and re-do my analytics? If so, can anyone help me do that?
Tracking code show the real time data or the data of past day.
So if anyone has the above mentioned issue, he need to wait at least 24 hours to get correct reporting through Google Analytic.

I want to track particular links on my site to see where they come from. For example, I want to know which links on my navigation are being clicked, so if something is not being clicked I could potentially remove it.

UTM codes are meant to track inbound traffic. Don't use them to track internal/outbound navigation, as it will seriously mess up your reporting.

GTM is loading async, just like GA, so performance-wise they are equivalent.

By default GA will not track link clicks. You can indeed add parameters to URLs and then use those to build custom reports and see which links are being clicked.
Since what you're trying to do is custom implementation, you won't find a single best answer, it's up to you to implement something that fits your needs. These are some examples:

I've got a site that has multiple share buttons on entries in a WordPress site.
We designed this so there are no individual entries to view, they're Podcasts and videos. The listing page has a minimum of 10 entries, each with share buttons.
Currently the share links and titles are working correctly. But the page is not recognizing the og:image, and instead is picking up the default logo for the site itself.
I read another post on Stack Overflow that said it might be an issue for LinkedIn if the image is utilizing SSL for the link. But I just find that hard to believe.
The other issue I'm struggling with, the docs say once an image is scraped it stays cached for approximately 7 days.
I had an issue with FaceBook and there's a debugger that allows you to rescrape the page which let's me verify my changes worked.
My two questions are, is there something other than the og:image i should be specifying? since I can't specify it per post, it's in the head of the page itself, i would think it would pick that up. No?
Second, is there a way a developer can re-check after the meta info has been changed to see if the changes worked, without having to wait the TTL on the cache?
try this:
url/link?blah=1
url/link?blah=2
url/link?blah=3
to get around the cache.
This should trick it into thinking its a new page each time.

Anthony Walz posted the correct answer. Through email he also helped another problem i had which corrected a new issue i didn't realize I had until i looked.
my LinkedIn shares were not picking up the show title, they were picking up the page description instead (i have several podcasts showing on one page, we don't use individual post pages, they all play from the listing.)

I am receiving 404 errors (showing on Google search console)that somehow relate to Facebook.

What it seems to be doing is taking one link (eg part of the whole link above) which relates to a photo on my blog and then appending the facebook page url. So, if I take the first part of the link above
(before the facebook part starts) I get a perfectly good link through to my site. If I take the second part (where the facebook link starts) then it takes me to my FB page. Again fine.
Why are these two linking together like this as it is this that seems to be causing the 404. Is it something in my settings. It's only just started happening.
Going to facebook directly and clicking on my post links takes me to the correct part of my blog.
I am not sure how to fix this. There are no broken links attached in google for me to view either. They keep happening every day. I now have 295 crawl errors and growing.
Would appreciate any help that can be given to lead me in the right direction.

So, in order to see interests/demographics/etc on google analytics, I need to make a one line change to my tracking script on the website ( https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/2444872?hl=en&utm_id=ad ). So, I simply copied the code and pasted it in my website's base template. Everything works! Realtime analytics, google's debug script gives no errors, but... when I click demographics tab, or any other one requiring the script change, I need to validate the tracking code. When I click that button, nothing happens... Anyone had similar problems?

I had the same problem; I knew I implemented the code correctly, still the validation didn't work. I hesitated to press skip, though, but it worked when I did! After that, it said on the web page that it will take 24 hours before data reports start to show.

Edit: Just noticed that the question was solved in the comments.
Check again tomorrow. Can take anywhere to 24 hours for demographic data to start populating.
My problem is that I was using a "Like button" plugin on wordpress and I didn't liked the looks of it. I deactivated the plugin and then tried with manual code of XFBML button. That screwed the count to some of the posts, having their counts all in one. I reverted the changes, using the plugin again, deleted the code added and the problem persists. Some of the posts have the "shared" count box. And when you "Like!" any of that posts, only the last one appears on Facebook.
It's it possible that this is a caché issue or something that is wrong in the code?
I tried reverting the meta tag "og:type" from "blog" to "website" but it didn't allowed me, can this be the problem?
Why do some of the posts share that countbox if the links are not the same?
And the wierdest thing, why only some of the posts have the issue while some are shared correctly?
As for an example, say post 1, 5 and 7 share the same countbox (+200). When you "like!" any of them, only the last of them (the most recent) gets to the FB wall.
This doesn't happen with the new posts, only with part of the old ones.

The FB debug tool shows that you didn't supply the fb:app_id > which seems to be crucial to render the news feed.

Once you've done that you can add the fb:app_id by adding this into your header:

And by the way, the error was because of the meta tag og:type changed from website to article. What I did was to leave it to article (not trying to change it "forcing" og:type - website) and placing each "bad" post in the FB Debugger. There were 30 or so... but it worked, and now the new posts work too, with zero count from the start and incrementing correctly, each in particular.
