Myrrix was recently purchased by Cloudera. Will Myrrix become part of the Cloudera platform? Is there any estimate for when that will occur? Will there be a charge for the use of Myrrix in the future?

The current Myrrix code base is end-of-lifed and will be unsupported after December 31, 2013.
Internally we are building a newer project from the code base, however. It may be open-sourced quite soon in fact, but I do not want to commit to anything.

PS the successor is Oryx and was released last October.

With many customers otherwise focused on other priorities due to COVID19 related issues, is there any potential for MSFT extending the support date for Basic Auth for EWS services?
The current date is mid-October 2020 and I know many banks are in a difficult position to try and migrate to Graph since it's new for most developers.
Its already been announced
In response to the COVID-19 crisis and knowing that priorities have changed for many of our customers we have decided to postpone disabling Basic Authentication in Exchange Online for those tenants still actively using it until the second half of 2021

I have looked around and have not found many opinions on if it is important to update your R software as soon as a new version is released.
Any opinions would be welcomed!
As with any software, you should carefully evaluate what is included in any new release. If the release consists only of bug-fixes, it is usually expedient to install it as soon as it is practicable for you to do so. If the scope of the release is more expansive -- new features, etc. -- you should review the release more carefully.
If you're in the middle of an important project with a killer deadline, it's quite reasonable to wait a little while before applying any update.
Also, you should as a matter of routine re-run a selection of jobs, that you know the answers to, in order to be sure that the answers are still the same. "No, mistakes of this nature don't happen often, but they do happen."

I know this is not precisely a programming question, but I don't where else to ask...
S-PLUS was aquired by TIBCO some years ago. And it was seemingly included to the Spotfire product. However I installed the demo version of Spotfire and can't find anything indicating that S-PLUS is anymore part of it.
So my question is: is S-PLUS dead? And is there any way to install a prior version of it? I know R has totally taken over, but I'd be curious to just try it out if it is available somewhere.
Not sure how relevant the question is but here are my $0.02:
Yes, R has won.
TIBCO still seems to have a Spotfire product mentioning S-Plus (pdf found via simple Google search).
IIRC, years ago TIBCO purchased the commercial S license, but it turns out that nobody really wanted S-Plus if it was not entirely compatible with R.
TIBCO learned that lesson and built an entirely new R-compatible engine they call TERR; the jury is still out as to whether it will ever get any significant traction.
In the end, it is rather difficult to beat a well-maintained and written Open Source product---and R is one of the better examples of Open Source done right.

I came across this video of Uncle Bob speaking about the SICP book and the assignment statement and it made me think (and read the corresponding chapter from SICP).
I'm wondering whether the arguments listed (local state, side effects, etc.), considering the first edition was published in 1984, are still a problem in modern languages like Java and C#. It may have been a problem then. Is it still now? Or has something changed?
For example in Java we have immutable Strings. A particular area I can think of where assignment is detrimental is concurrency (correct me if I'm wrong). No assignment means no synchronization and no resource deadlocks, right?

Microsoft Project and Waterfall
Does using Microsoft Project force you into a waterfall model? Could anyone point me to examples of successful iterative (agile for example) projects that successfully use(d) MS Project as a supporting tool?
Consider other alternatives for providing management with the transparency into development work which they presumably want. It's not going to help you with the frequent replanning that's at the core of agile methods -- MS Project is more likely to prove a hindrance.
Instead, talk to them about using low-tech whiteboards to show progress on objectives through e.g. percentages of user stories completed, estimated and actual velocities and highlighted issues. But if they're pushing MS Project, they're going to need to be at least tentatively converted to iterative/agile methods. Google around... they may ask for figures to back your position: show them the numbers on agility rather than on MS Project.
