I am a newbie to word press and buddy press. For learning purpose I have created an account in a free word press hosting site and installed buddy press manually. But in my buddy press website when I am clicking on register new user link its showing a "Page not found" error message.
I have checked the buddy press folder and found a registration folder inside it.Can anyone please suggest a solution for this problem. Sorry for my bad English.
a free word press hosting site....
That's the problem. Free hosting sites are crippled and typically don't allow mod_rewrite and have other reduced functions that will impact anything more than a bare-bones WP install. Get a real hosting account: Recommended WordPress Web Hosting
This may not apply to you if the free host problem was actually the problem but the way to create a custom registration page is as follows..
In wordpress create a new page. Name it anything you like, let's say 'Register' and then click Publish Don't alter it in any other way.
A. In the wordpress admin panel go to settings -> buddypress -> pages.
B. Under Registration -> Register choose 'Register' (this is the blank page you created of the same name.)
Get a copy of register.php from bp-legacy (the default BP templates location)
/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress/members/register.php
Rename it to index-register.php and copy it to this location..
/wp-content/themes/YOURTHEME/buddypress/members/index-register.php
Your registration page will be at your.website/register/ Check that it is working (and of course change your.website to your actual domain name)
If you've followed these steps properly you will know wether your host is the problem.
You can customize index-register.php to suit your needs.

I migrated the company's website on a new hosting server. Since then, I cannot access my Wordpress dashboard when I'm logged in.
When connected, I see my website and the classic Wordpress top bar. But when I click on the button with the name of my website (usually that sends me to the dashboard) it just sends me back to the home page.
I add that the top bar isn't really like the classic top bar since it doesn't contain any option.
Here's a screenshot.
The top of my website when logged with the top bar of the admin wordpress
Clicking "Bonjour Signature_Beta" doesn't do anything. I can only log out.
Going to the /wp-admin page gives me an error saying "Sorry, you do not have authorization to reach this page". Except, I'm supposed to have authorization since my profile has a wp_content value of a:1:{s:13:"administrator";b:1;} and wp_user_level of 10.
I have tried multiple things I found online that didn't come to fruition sadly :
Renaming plugin's folder (nothing changes except page breaking because they're made with Elementor)
Renaming theme's and child theme's folder (page goes blank, top bar still there though)
Replaced .htaccess file (nothing)
Checking my account didn't lose admin privilege through phpmyadmin (it didn't, it's at level 10 + it has the weird administrator code
Added a new admin account through function.php (can log in with it, still can't access dashboard)
Increased memory limit
Repair database tables
Kind of desperate and frustrated about it.
Thank you in advance for the help :)
Ok with a fresh pair of eyes, I found out what was the problem. Tables prefix! I followed what was described here : After moving Wordpress, login works, but no admin access anymore
For the record, I never found it when googling or searching my answer here before posting. When posting my question I review the post stackoverflow suggested and it wasn't there either. But now it's suggested next to my post, so... great!
I'm new to trying Wordpress development. I'm using wordpress.com directly to develop my first site. I'd rather not have to use FTP or anything more than just their website to continue this development.
I'd like the page to not be online until I'm ready for it to go public. How do I "turn off" the page - in other words, can I disable it so that only I can see it? Thanks!
You can use coming soon plugin to your site that prevents user to view pages of your site.
But when you login to your admin, you can see all those pages. So that you can continue your development.
There are numerous plugins which adds coming soon or landing page to non logged in user and shows page content to administrator.
You can try this plugin: Ultimate Coming Soon Page
If you want to set page not publicly you can set particular Page as a Draft from the sidebar there is a button Save Draft
i suggest you develop on your local PC. it will give you full control and once done you can move this site to your online site.
this may help you.
Installing WordPress Locally
I have implemented a twitter login for my site, using a plugin called "Simple Twitter Connect".
Now what this plugin does is create a twitter login function for my site above the the comments section which allows users to use their twitter details rather than filling out name and email boxes.
Now the problem I am having with it is when it gets to the authorize page on twitter.com, after entering the details and then going back to the site it loads solicialize.gigaya.com page.
On the contents of the page it says
Failed connecting. Please try again later
I initially thought it must simply be something wrong with the plugin, however I have contacted the plugin author and he as said that gigya has nothing to do with his plugin nor does his plugin link to it.
I havent signed up to gigya nor implemented any of their functions on my site, so I'm not sure how this site gets into the equation.
If anyone wants to recreate the issue, the click here and login via twitter.
Can anyone suggest what the issue may be?
After the successful OAuth-Login you are redirected to the Callback URL associated with your Consumer key. The Callback URL can be configured - here's how you do it:
Log in to https://dev.twitter.com/apps
Select the application which you are using in your blog
Go to the "Settings" tab and you'll find the Callback URL under "Application Type"
Set the URL to your blog base directory (where the index.php is).
I am new to web development. I am trying to build a site using wordpress as a cms. As such i want to know whether there is any way to create user accounts, so that people can register with the site and login. We would have an online store and we would like users to be able to save and view orders.
I have seen buddy press, but it only works with some themes. Is there any other option available?
Thanks in advance,
cpv
You can add one of the free plugins such as "Login Logout". This is the one I am currently using and it lets new users register for accounts.
You need to search for it in your plugins tab in wordpress, then install and activate it. Then you need to go to your Widgets tab and include it. Then it should run on your website.
Yes, Wordpress has user management, I suggest you play around with wordpress to understand how it works. Download a few e-commerce plugins or user management plugins and see how it all works.
Buddy press just uses the same user management that wordpress has.
I'm sure the wordpress documentation is a good place to look for more information.
I recently upgraded to WPMU 2.8.6 and ever since, my users can't log in on their individual blogs, but they can log in from the main page.
My site is at blogs.mtwp.net (we're a school district).
So if a user goes to blogs.mtwp.net/BLOGNAME/wp-login.php, their password is rejected. If they go to blogs.mtwp.net/wp-login.php, they can log in and get to the dashboard from there.
But it's not all users. Site admins can get in just fine.
We're using wpDirAuth 1.4 if that makes a difference.
Honestly, I'm stumped. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
you would seem to have enabled the WPdirauth plugin at the top level blog but not on others. Only your top level blog will have the necessary information to connect to your directory.
Site admins are not typically part of your internal directory - they're a Wordpress user which means they can still log-in ok without needing to connect to Active Directory or whatever you're using.
Enable WPdirauth on all blogs that you need users to login to.
Try reviewing your wp-config file. You should see something like this:
define('SUBDOMAIN_INSTALL', true);
Depending on how you've configured Wordpress, this must be enabled to log in to the dashboard of secondary sites.
