I've searched thoroughly before asking, I'd like to find out how to take some text from a listview and pass it into a string. Theres only one column in the listview and only one row. The value in it is an integer.
The closest I came was this:
teststring = ListView1.Items.ToString
but that just filled the string with "System.Collections.Generic.List`1[System.Web.UI.WebControls.ListViewDataItem]"
Update: I'm working under ASP.NET
Use this,
teststring = ListView1.Items(ListView1.Items.Count - 1)
Instead of
teststring = ListView1.Items.ToString
Because your attempt will get the ListViewItemCollection (Non-Technically: group of items), But actually your need is to get a single item from that group. If you need further clarifications, Please refer this.
Update,
teststring = Ctype(ListView1.Items(ListView1.Items.Count - 1),Control).text
Try this:
teststring = ListView1.Items(0).Text

I want to delete the part of string existing after "|". For Example String s = HelloWorld|ABCD i want to delete ABCD.
I want to do it in asp.net. Help Will be much appreciated.
subString method might be used for this but i dont know how to do it.
Kindly help me out with this.
int pipeIndex = s.IndexOf("|");
s = pipeIndex == - 1 ? s : s.Substring(0, pipeIndex);
This is the most efficient way, maybe you find this more readable:
s = s.Split('|')[0];
I have a trivial question about updating a datatable MyDT. I googled and found several approach and got compile errors. Here is the code and here is what I tried with the error. Any help is greatly appreciated. BTW, I am using asp.net framework 2.0 and VB.NET
MyDT.Rows[1][4] = "4NF" ' Property access must assign to the property or use it value
row.Item("New_Column") = "4NF" ' Input string was not in a correct format.
Couldn't store <4NF> in New_Column Column. Expect type is Byte.
row["New_Column"] = "4NF" ' Expression is not a method
Dim StatusCode As String
For Each row As DataRow In MyDT.Rows
StatusCode= row.Item("ThisColumn").ToString()
If StatusCode= "NONF" Then
MyDT.Rows[1][4] = "4NF"
End If
Next row
You should either:
Store data as String in your DataTable
Do a conversion
Here how the conversion looks
MyDT.Rows[1][4] = Convert.ToByte("4NF")
I've got a string like so
Jamie(123)
And I'm trying to just show Jamie without the brackets etc
All the names are different lengths so I was wondering if there was a simple way of replacing everything from the first bracket onwards?
Some others are displayed like this
Tom(Test(123))
Jack ((4u72))
I've got a simple replace of the bracket at the moment like this
mystring.Replace("(", "").Replace(")","")
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
VB.NET
mystring.Substring(0, mystring.IndexOf("("C)).Trim()
C#
mystring.Substring(0, mystring.IndexOf('(')).Trim();
One logic; get the index of the ( and you can trim the later part from that position.
public static string Remove(string value)
{
int pos = value.IndexOf("(");
if (pos >= 0)
{
return value.Remove(pos, remove.Length);
}
return value;
}
aneal's will work. The alternative I generally use because it's a bit more flexible is .substring.
string newstring = oldstring.substring(0,oldstring.indexof("("));
If you aren't sure that oldstring will have a "(" you will have to do the test first just as aneal shows in their answer.
String.Remove(Int32) will do what you need:
Deletes all the characters from this string beginning at a
specified position and continuing through the last position.
You will also have to .Trim() as well given the data with padding:
mystring = mystring.Remove(mystring.IndexOf("("C))).Trim()
I'm creating a gridview using an objectdatasource and it works fine when pulling all records. But when I want to use the selectCountMethod the grid shows no values.
I Step through the code and my getInvoices (gets the requested data) returns data and the getInvoicesCount (gets the total record count). But then when I go through the rowdatabound of the gridview there's nothing in there and no data displays.
Here is my code to set the objectdatasource. Any reasons why it wouldn't work or something special that needs to be done for getting the selectcount to work?
Me.ODS.TypeName = "invoice"
Me.ODS.EnablePaging = True
Me.ODS.SelectMethod = "getInvoices"
Me.ODS.SelectCountMethod = "GetInvoiceCount"
Me.ODS.StartRowIndexParameterName = "startRowIndex"
Me.ODS.MaximumRowsParameterName = "maximumRows"
Me.ODS.SelectParameters.Add("strbu", strBusUnit)
Me.ODS.SelectParameters.Add("stremailAddress", emailAddress)
Me.ODS.SelectParameters.Add("startDate", search_startdate)
Me.ODS.SelectParameters.Add("enddate", search_enddate)
Me.ODS.SelectParameters.Add("sortExpression", sortExpression & " " & sortDirection)
With gvInvoices
.PageIndex = intPageIndex
.PageSize = 25
.DataBind()
End With
Check if the count being returned is an integer . debug it . maybe it is null.
and if not null parse it to an integer
I was able to figure this one out. The count was being returned as a long instead of integer. I changed it to integer and all is working great
I have a quick question about JQuery. I have dynamically generated paragraphs with id's that are incremented. I would like to take information from that page and bring it to my main page. Unfortunately I am unable to read the dynamically generated paragraph IDs to get the values. I am trying this:
var Name = ((data).find("#Name" + id).text());
The ASP.NET code goes like this:
Dim intI As Integer = 0
For Each Item As cItem in alProducts1
Dim pName As New System.Web.UI.HtmlControls.HtmlGenericControl("p")
pName.id = "Name" & intI.toString() pName.InnerText = Item.Name controls.Add(pName) intI += 1
Next
Those name values are the values I want...Name1, name2, name3 and I want to get them individually to put in their own textbox... I'm taking the values from the ASP.NET webpage and putting them into an AJAX page.
Your question is not clear about your exact requirement but you can get the IDs of elements with attr method of jQuery, here is an example:
alert($('selector').attr('id'));
You want to select all the elements with the incrementing ids, right?
// this will select all the elements
// which id starts with 'Name'
(data).find("[id^=Name]")
Thanks for the help everyone. I found the solution today however:
var Name = ($(data).find('#Name' + id.toString()).text());
I forgot the .toString() part and that seems to have made the difference.
