Tridion profiling/tracking - tridion

We're looking at a requirement to track a users journey through a Tridion-managed website, then be able identify this user as a "prospect" based on this behaviour and then trigger an email to this user if they dont return after X number of days.
Can SmartTarget "track" a user journey between pages out-the-box or would it require some sort of custom Ambient Data Framework cartridge?
The older P&P module did this kind of tracking but I don't recall there being away to use that data in an Outbound Email triggered mail - so send an email when a tracking count for user got above a certain figure?

SmartTarget nor P&P is not going to help you here.
Because your requirement is sending an email you need you user to be an audience manager user,
you could do the tracking in ADF and then have that update an extended detail for the user when the threshold is reached,
Create a Dynamic Distribution list on the ext. detail en create a triggered mailing on that list
To do this "out of the box" is a long standing wish of mine, might be possible in the future :)

Can I trigger google analytics events for a user from different environments?

We are trying to have a full view of user journeys through the web application we are developing. In the middle of the journey, there's no problem because it's more or less a traditional web application, but the beginnings and the end are not usual.
The journey begins with us sending email to the customers (don't worry, it's not spam). Is it possible to send events to Google Analytics about email being sent? I can include the UserID in those events. If I then implement user id in my web application, would I be able to correlate emails send to website visits?
At the other end of the journey, the conversions don't happen by the user that's being coverted but by a manager manually marking the user as converted in a sort-of admin-side to the web application. Can I then again inject the event that the user was converted with the appropriate UserID? Will Google Analytics then be able to map the whole journey? Do I need anything else?

You'll need to do what you're asking in a CRM.
That said, I think what you CAN do is use campaign tracking and track the links in the email sent to the users. This way you'd know if they've acted on the emails or not.
Then you'd be able to track them on your site when they interact with the email. If there are CTAs on your site for the users to contact a manager to be converted, then you can track those as events, then set up goals around these events to see conversions.

Google Analytics - flagging PII/NPI (personally identifiable information & non-public information)

Can you set up alerts in Google Analytics to flag potential PII/NPI such as name, email address, billing address, billing details etc.? If so, how?
First I have do say I do not understand the downvote(s). For example I have seen applications with user logins where a full name was part of the page title - combined with time based dimensions that gave profile that say which user looked at what page at what time, and that would be clearly illegal. Even worse I have seen a case where security tokens were transmitted to GA that allowed access to secured resources. So clearly accidental transmission of PII to Google Analytics is a real thing.
Unfortunately there is not much you can do about it. You can either do a custom report with relevant dimensions and have it sent to you for a manual audit, or pull them via the API and have them programmatically examined via regular expressions that look for patterns like e-mail addresses etc. But by the time you can do that it is already to late, the data will already be permanently recorded in the GA property.
You have to stop this before the data is collected - if at all possible already in the website (via form validation etc), or use Google Tag Manager with custom javascript variables with validation rules, or filters in the analytics view (the latter being cumbersome and not very promising for this purpose).
The good news is that GA will not suddendly start to track PII on it's own. So you only need to check if your GA account tracks PII when you set up the account. Collect a few days data, validate that everything is okay, make changes as necessary and after all flaws are straightened out copy the view to start data collection from scratch and drop the old view if it contains PII.

PayPal Failure notification

I have an asp.net application
The User can purchase items and/or upgrade an existing service. I use PayPal to handle payments.
When the order is placed I put the order details into a table as a record. I also do this so that if the User revisits my page I check a flag in that table to tell them whether payment has been received.
If not received then I display a message on my web page telling them they have requested and upgrade and that we are currently waiting for payment.
I also disable any future purchases for that User so that they do not upgrade twice (or more).
Now, it occurs to me that when the User is redirected to PayPal to make that purchase that a payment could fail or they could close the web page.
In that case then the User would not be able to ever upgrade unless they send me a support email.
What is best practice? Wait for a time period to elapse and if no payment then allow User to try again or stick with the support email route?
If it is best to wait for a period of time what is an acceptable period of time to wait for?

What you can do.
Each time the user is ready to leave your page and move to paypal to pay, you create
Clone of their order
A new unique ID connected with that cloned order.
So, if one order if fail, at any time the user come back is find a new set "Order"+"Unique ID". With that 2 elements can make a final payment.
You may end up with two or tree or more cloned orders, but from my experience because this is what I really do, is rare, and its safe for your customer and you.
Also please note that paypal is accept only one unique id for each order. If one ID is fail, then you must create a new one anyway.
The unique id you send to paypal go to the invoice parametre.

Authorization and charging flow with Shopify

I am developing an addon for Shopify platform and using the Shopify NET library I have managed to authorize the user shop and gather some data.
Now I need to charge the usage of the Addon with a monthly fee (providing 7 days trial) but I cannot figure out the flow I must follow.
I guess that I have to call Recurring Application Charge API after the user authenticates (at the callback from the authorization URL) and if the user declines the charge then I have to log him out. Is that correct?
Do I have to care for providing 7 days trial by myself or the Shopify RACharge API with manage it by itself?
What do I have to do when the user cancel the subscription or freeze it?
Can anyone point me out a document that analyze the charging flow except the Shopify Billing API which is not that helpful after all?
First question, you're right. You either have to log out the user or you just let him authed without permission to see some views or all of them.
There's a propperty on Recurring Application which allows you to define the days of the trial: "Number of days that the customer is eligible for a free trial.", so Shopify handles this for you.
When user cancels a subscription or his store is put on "frozen" status, you should make sure he doesn't have access to your App functionalities, though if it's frozen, he won't even be able to log into his store.

Drupal 7 - Send automatically email to users who have the same interest than in new node

Okay, here's the deal. My client posts job ads to his website. Applicants can register in his page and choose what kind of jobs they're interested in. If new job ad (new node) includes same interest(s) than a user(applicant) has chosen, email should be sent automatically to the user(applicant).
I am building the site in Drupal 7 and tried to solve this with Rules. Problem is that I couldn't find a replacement pattern to scope all users, only current user was available. Email should be sent to all users who have the same interest(s) than in new job ad.
Could someone give some tips?

You can create different type to taxonomy terms like c, c++, java, testing, iOs etc & ask user to subscribe his interest.
Then on posting a job with x term, all the related users will receive an email.
There are lot of other customization which you can achieve with this module.
