I have website in VS2008. Created the Virtual directory in IIS 5.1. When I try and run the site to debug from Visual Studio I keep on getting:
Your Web service is now running.
You do not currently have a default Web page established for your users. Any users attempting to connect to your Web site from another machine are currently receiving an Under Construction page. Your Web server lists the following files as possible default Web pages: default.htm,default.asp,index.htm,iisstart.asp. Currently, only iisstart.asp exists.
To add documents to your default Web site, save files in c:\inetpub\wwwroot.
I have no idea why this is happening.
Can anyone help me?
If I understand correctly, it may be as simple as this:
In Solution Explorer, right-click on the page you want to be the default page and click "Set as Start Page".

I'm fairly new to developing with ASP.NET and in general. I have created a simple data-driven web application that will be used to display images the colors of which will be changed depending on certain criteria. I used Visual Studio 2019 to create it. When I test/run it from within VS 2019 using the "play" button, it runs perfectly and the page opens in my browser just as you would expect.
My issue is that I'm trying to deploy it to the IIS and host it from my machine here at work, so others can access the pages. I have published the application to a local file on my C:\ drive. I then open up IIS Manager and create the website by pointing to that local file. Now, when I choose to browse that site from the IIS manager, at first I was getting an error saying that access is denied.
Then I followed the instructions to configure the security on that local file folder to allow IIS_USRS to access the file, but when I run it, I just get a page that tries to load indefinitely.
What am I doing wrong? If I point the IIS Manager to the files after saving them to a location on my company's network, I again get the access is denied error.
Do I understand it correctly that IIS needs permission to access the files? If so, how do I configure it that way other than what I already tried? If I need to provide further information, please let me know. Thanks so much for your support.
I have just completed my website and I started working with IIS it works fine when I put all my file without published. I copy the whole website to wwwroot inside my folder as I said It works fine but when I tried to work without code behind page it didn't work I published website from VS. and I copy my published file to the same folder but it doesn't work.
I received this error:
Eval is not declared. It may be inaccessible due to its protection level.
I don't want to put my code behind page. How can I run my published pages?
First, when you publish your web project, their are no code behind pages.
Do this, set a directory and publish your site in it.
Now cmd-> intemgr->
site-> -> add web site->
give site name and select an application pool, then set the physical path to the directory where your application is published, if necessary change the port to something like 50 because 80 is a standard port for http. Hit ok. Your site is ready.
Please check in application pool that your application pool is set to .Net framework version V4.0 (i mean the version compatible to your app ).

A group of us wrote a .NET web application for our University class and in order to let our prof test with it I am setting it up on my webserver at home. Here is what I have done so far:
I created a new account on my domain, I then granted that account Read, write access to the folder where the app is stored. I have setup an application pool that uses this new account as its identity and created a new site that uses the new application pool.
I initially was receiving the Service unavailable error message, so I realized I had to add my account to the IIS_WPG account. So now I am stuck at the "page cannot be found". The website is pointing to the correct folder (I can see the aspx page list from within the IIS browser) but when browsing the site either in IIS, on a browser on the server or on a browser within my network I keep getting Page cannot be found. The home directory is pointing to default.aspx which is what our app uses.
The app of course works just fine when running from within the IDE, but now that I am trying to get it to work it doesn't want to.
Any thoughts?

you should give error details first.
for now, I suggest you check the 'network service' account's permission.this is the ASP.NET's account.
then publish your site to *.aspx file and *.dll file. to see if there is any errors.
So I found the issue. What I didn't know is that by default, IIS 6 does not turn on support of active server pages and .NET pages in Web Service Extensions. Once I had turned this on the site began to work just fine.
I'm evaluating Telerik's Sitefinity CMS. On my dev box (Win7 x64/IIS7), everything works great.
However, when I deploy the site to our Win2k3/IIS6 server, the backend system doesn't work correctly. According to fiddler, anytime the browser makes an AJAX request to a WCF (.svc) service within the application, the home page is being returned.
Any suggestions?
I've tried:
re-registering ASP.net
Re-registering WCF with
\windows\microsoft.net\framework\v3.*\wcf\servicemodelreg -i
Made sure that the .svc extension is allowed
Deleted and recreated the site in IIS
Argh. Suggestions?

This turned out to be related to the IIS6 application pool identity, permissions on the web folder, and having multiple authentication methods checked in site properties. By playing with those things I was able to get it to work.
As a test, I ran the site through the Sitefinity project manager app (using its integrated Cassini server), and everything worked correctly.
I have an ASP.NET Web Application project that I am using to host a WCF Data Services (OData) project.
I went and changed the url from:
http://localhost/MyProject
to
http://localhost/v1/MyProject
after I did that I created a Virtual Directory for the new project URL.
Now when I run I get this error:
Unable to start debugging on the web server. The web server is not configured correctly. See help for common configuration errors. Running the web page outside of the debugger may provide further information.
I clicked help but it was no help (was IIS 6 level instructions, I have IIS 7). I did some googling and it was all fairly generic responses.
How can I get this working again? (Aside from revert to my old Url. Reverting works but I changed it for a very good reason.)
Your virtual directory need to point to the same scr directory you were originally debugging against.
Also, make sure the virtual directory is configured for Windows Authentication, which is required for debugging.
I had to go to my website in IIS and add a folder under it called v1. After I did that it all worked perfectly.
