JQuery load() function disables links and :hover effects? - css

I'm trying to load content from a different file into a div element within the current file using the jQuery load() function. Nothing fancy, just loading it and that's it. However the links that are contained in the loaded file become "disabled", you cannot click them, and pseudo-classes like :hover seem to be left out as well. Is there a solution to this?

When it is loaded into the <div class="content"> the link is not clickable. It is colored according to the css, however the :hover effect doesn't work, and it behaves like normal text - not a link. This is a problem because the content I'm trying to load has a couple of links, and none of them work after being load()'ed.

I believe your issue is:
You use $('div.content').load('content.html') to send a request for content to (later) be inserted into the DOM.
You then run some code to specify handlers for nodes using $(document).click, $(document).bind etc - but this code runs before the new nodes have been added to the DOM.
New nodes are then added when the .load call completes.
The behaviour that you defined on all the origional nodes isn't being followed on the new nodes.
If that is the issue your're describing - then you need to add all the same bindings to the new nodes once they're created.
i.e. you need to provide a callback to add the bindings to the new elements:

// etc.
}
$('div.content').load('content.html', null, onloaded);
(note that's not a particularly clean way of doing it, but it should explain what needs to be done).

I want to be able to know exactly which element from a class has been clicked. I enabled the text option in Tag Manager:
But it's still not visible in the click object. But it wouldn't pick it up, since the tag containing the text is nested in the clickable element. Can I add a custom HTML attribute to be able to identify which element has been clicked?

The best way to figure it out is to use the "Preview & Debug":
Activate it
Go to the page where you want to test (you should see now a new box at the bottom)
Click on the element
Check the variables in the debug box. Especially check the click.element data.
My guess is that since there is no "real" text in the div box, just children tags, no text can be discovered.
There are different options to solve it:
add the text as data-attribute to the div and use the click.element data
use a data-layer push event
if you know JS you can use the click.element data in a JS variable and traverse down to the h3
If you are going to keep your code as it is, you could create a custom variable, using Custom JavaScript.
In order to do so you need to first create the custom variable, choosing the Custom JavaScript type:
This code should do the job (I tested id)

The custom variable will return the text inside .card-title.
To test the custom variable, you may create a dumb HTML tag with a console.log script, replacing Inside TXT with the name you gave to your custom variable:

The trigger should be a Click All Elements.
When previewing this tag, the captured text should appear in your console, as well as in the debugger panel.
Reading again your question, I wonder if you are going to have several .card-title items inside the .card-content. In that case, this custom variable will not work. Let me know what is the case.
Also, the code could be simpler, but I am not really sure on how is it really going to work in your site, so this one seems more reliable, since it works clicking anywhere in the element.
EDIT:
In order to test it, after you click an element, a new "Click" will appear in the left pane (Summary). There, in the Variables tab, you will see the variables captured by the click. The data will be stored under the variable name you gave to the variable.

How do I locate elements in protractor that are in other views and are not visible when viewing page source

I am new to Angular & Protractor (and web development for that matter), so I apologize of this is an obvious question.
I am trying to test our angular app with protractor, and it appears that I can locate the first element on the page. But cannot find any of the other elements using (id, name, model, css). I have tried chaining off of the first element, but always get the element not found error on the second element in the chain. I've have triple check the spelling so I am confident everything is correct.
Our page is setup up with multiple sections and when I "view source" I only see the root div.

But when I inspect the elements using the developer tools (F12), they exist in the DOM, I just don't know how to get to them.

I tried to access the control listed above using the following:

If an element is not visible, I believe protractor isnt able to interact with it. It can't click or get text or anything if it is not visible, that is actually checked before it can perform the action.
What you can do is check the element is present to ensure it is somewhere on the html.
var searchText = $('#searchText');
expect(searchText.isPresent()).toBeTruthy('Search Text element not present');
This will find an element with a css selector of id searchText, and then check if it is present(exists on the html).
If you want to interact with it, remember that protractor looks around like a human would. If a human cant click it, neither can protractor! Make sure it is on the page and visible.
Don't have the reputation points to add this in the comments to user2020347's response so...When you say not in "view source" I assume you're talking about dynamically generated content. Instead of using view source either use chrome or firefox developer tools to make sure you're using the right locators.
For example in chrome's console the following should return a result once the page is loaded:
$$('#searchText')
$$('input[data-ng-model="vm.searchText"]')
It also looks like you're sending keys to the same element.
Since you have an angular app protractor should wait for all elements to load, but just in case you might want to wait for the element to be present and/or visible on the page.
Same happened to me, because Protractor executed on the original (first) tab.
Try to switch between the tabs before accessing the elements:

Component initialization with Iron Router, Jquery, Materialize

Struggling here with what would otherwise be a simple $( document ).ready().
Not sure what I'm doing wrong.
Materialize needs jquery components to be initialized on DOM ready. Finding a way to initialize components on all views is surprisingly tricky.

From reading the docs: this should initialize everything the sub-templates require:
Template.layout.rendered = function(){
$('ul.tabs').tabs()
}
}
However, this only works on a hard page refresh, and not with links routing the views.
So instead you would have to initialize on each template that element will be used
Template.x.rendered ...
Template.y.rendered ...

BTW We've tried iron-router events:
onRun
onBeforeAction
onAfterAction
All of these seem to happen before the route's template content is present. I noticed that onBeforeAction required a call to this.next() to go on, I even tried looking for the DOM content after the next call.
I also tried rewriting our routes like this:

Just to be clear, the reason this is happening is because your layout is only firing the rendered hook once. When you switch routes the layout template will not be rerendered, only the templates in the yield region will be. The previous template in that region gets destroyed and the next one rerendered. This means you have to run $('ul.tabs').tabs() again for that Template as the DOM elements it contains are rerendered.
Putting that code in the rendered function of the template that uses it works because that rendered hook gets run every time that particular template gets rendered again.
A way you could get around this could be to create a Template specifically for your tabs, like a control in a way, that calls $('ul.tabs').tabs() in its own rendered function. You could then put this control on a template that needed it and pass the required arguments, like number of tabs and content for each tab etc. It's a bit of work though, and I'd only consider it if I had a really large number of templates that used the tab control.

iframe doesn't obey color styling

As you can see here, I have set up an addon to replace some contents of the network-inspect-popup with pretty-printed values. The odd thing is, I'm setting background of both the iframe and the inner document (background;#FFF), but it still shows the bluish background of the net-inspector. What's wrong with this, and why does DOM Inspector addon not even let me inspect to see what's wrong here?
Your own code overrides your own style. You have:
netPanel.iframe.addEventListener('load',function(event) {

This event listener will be called for all load events bubbling in the netPanel.iframe DOM, and that includes the load event the iframe document you insert creates. Change your code to first check the load is actually coming from a document you want to "overlay".
PS: You can actually use the DOM Inspector. But note that the "window" is not actually a window, but a <panel> in under the browser.xul top-level DOM.

How to find all dialogs in JQuery

I am trying to bind an event to all dialogs that have been created on a page using the JQuery UI Dialog function (whether they have been displayed or not). I can't seem to figure out a selector that will get me there. I've tried both .ui-dialog and .ui-dialog-content without success.
Since I'm trying to make a generic method, I won't know the IDs of the dialogs that may have been created.
I'm using the following code to test. It works if I specify a dialog's id (#mydialog), but in production, I won't know these.

Do your dialogs have a common class that you can select them with? If they all have the "ui-dialog" class then this will work:

Your example of
$("div.ui-dialog")
Is asking to select all divs with a class of ui-dialog, which should probably also work as long as the class is given to a div element.
Your problem might be that you binding the dialog elements before they exist? You might want the .live() function instead so that it binds to any dialogs created at any point and not just the ones that exist when the function is called.
Posting an HTML snippet would help.
