Hello i am building a mobile webpage where my content only will be scrolling and my footer and header is position:fixed - Can i make the content so that it doesn't scroll under the header or footer , so that it just scrolls in it's own div.
The reason why i want to do this is that i am going to have some opacity on my header and footer and if the content gets scrolled under , it's just not looking good.
Heres a jsfiddle i made to just show you the example of the scroll
http://jsfiddle.net/VNVqs/
Here you are:
http://jsfiddle.net/VNVqs/3/
I just removed the position: absolute to the scrolling part (wrapper and scroll-content), and added some padding to the wrapper in order to let the first and last item not being under header and footer.
Basically, the trick is done by using position: fixed only on header and footer, and let the rest of the page to scroll as a normal page, without using overflow: auto on a specific fixed-height element. Doing this way, the only problem is that the first lines of your content will be always under the fixed-positioned header (and last ones under the footer), but you can fix this by applying some padding on the content wrapper, as much as header (and footer) height. You got it?

I am working on a large website for a client and we have run into an issue with the previous designers structure. The footer does not stay at the bottom of the content when it is dynamically generated. I have hidden divs that are opened with links. These divs contain user comments. When both are opened the footer overlaps some of the content. When I zoom in the footer overlaps some of the main content. I've tried:
Ryan Fait's CSS and HTML5 Sticky Footers
How to keep footer at the bottom even with dynamic height website
CSS Reset Sticky Footer
Prevent footer from overlapping
All with no success. Is doing a full restructure the only option? I've also tried using JavaScript to make the footer stay at the bottom of the content. But once the document is loaded and the height changes, the footer doesn't move with content. Ideas? The code I have is very long - 4000 lines of css, 2000 lines of HTML. Should I post part?
I've completely at logger heads with how I can get this footer to align with the bottom of the sidebar if zero content is in the space between the header and footer.
Sticky footer is not the solution because I don't want it to be at the bottom of the window. But inline with the bottom of the sidebar instead.
Here is an image of what it should look like but without the coloured blocks there at the moment they push the footer down where it is now.
I can't provide much code as this is on my local server, and is segmented and broken down into different files for wordpress.

as you can see the above screenshot is how I want the sidebar and footer to be with no content there.
Here is another screenshot showing my current problem, you can see how it latch's on to the bottom of any content on the page and sticks just below it.

Thanks in advance.
The sidebar needs a float:right; then create a div between sidebar and footer with clear:both;, have the css for your footer include margin-top:-xx (whatever pixels the footer height is). You might also need to throw a position:relative on there.

Fixed this by adding position relative to my container, then adding position absolute and bottom 0 to my footer.
Thanks anyway for the help
I'd like to have many elements fixed, but then have the main text block scroll.
Before I start coding, I'd just like some advice on the best way to do this. Should I wrap ALL the fixed elements together, and then inside that, have a relative element for the scrolling part?
Here is what I am trying to do:
I think you should create a main wrapper for your page which will have a relative position and that you center horizontally on your page (using margin: 0 auto; for example).
Then add inside that wrapper a <nav> for your top navigation and set its css position property to fixed, and then do the same for the sidebar with a <aside>.
Then add inside the wrapper a <div id="content"></div> for instance for your content and set its css position property to relative. If you want the content of this div to scroll vertically, you can add the following css : overflow: auto;
If I understand you well, you want your content to change without the page being reloaded & that the content scrolls, but not the rest.
You can :
Wrap your content into an iframe, so you can change the content without refreshing the whole page with a fixed height,
Just use a fixed height to your content div, and set this :
#yourDivId{
overflow:scroll;
overflow-y:none;
height: XXX px; //Fixed height;
}
Note : your mouse will have to hover the content to scroll it.
Well an advice?
Create separately three blocks; for fixed Nav, Fixed sidebar(for category) and scrolled main block(article). It'll be easy to order, I guess.
How many Category will display on the fixed sidebar? if the list heigher than window's screen, some category will be hidden unless you make it 'overflow:auto'. also consider about possibility of user resizing the screen.
Happy Coding !
I have a page where the main content has a variable height. I want to have a fixed height (about 50px) footer to the very bottom of the page.
I need it to scroll along with the page (so not a fixed position).
A couple scenarios:
If the body content is 300px tall, the window has no scrollbar, the footer would be all the way to the bottom and visible.
If the body content is 900px tall and the window has a scrollbar, the footer would be all the way at the bottom with no space between the footer and the bottom of the window, and not visible unless you scroll to the very bottom.
Is there a way to accomplish this in pure CSS? Trying to stay clear of using JS to handle this.
see the fiddle for code and demo

Note: Please note this http://jsfiddle.net/yp4EH/ is not for the answer it is just for demonstration purpose.
I am giving this for help and for concept purpose This fiddle http://jsfiddle.net/yp4EH/ is not related with this question but based on same situation - sidebar, content, footer at bottom always.
i have a problem with a stuck down footer not been pushed down by 2x DIVs in the main content area.
www.superwideprint.com/swp2
for some reason the 2 content containers arnt pushing the footer down when the screen resolution is low, i have added a clear:both div above the footer but to no avail.
can anyone help me please.
style sheet and main page can be seen from the link above. been at this for hours now.
The footer's position is set to absolute, so the content div is not going to affect it. Setting the position to relative will not help either, as this means your bottom: 0 code will push it to the bottom of whatever it is in, not the page.
What you're after is a sticky footer, try this http://www.cssstickyfooter.com/ or http://ryanfait.com/sticky-footer/
The reason is the #footer DIV is position:absolute. So, remove position:absolute form your footer.
A part from that your want your footer always stay at bottom then you can use Sticky Footer technique. Check this http://ryanfait.com/sticky-footer/
