I need to see what's rendered from my aspx page. When I publish, some features aren't working.
However, when I hit F5 from the IDE, my features work fine.
So I figure, why not view the source from the published website and compare it to development.
Problem is, when I hit F5 from the IDE and get IE8 -- 'view source' is disabled.
How can this be solved?
It could be that your IE cache/Temporary Internet Files is 'full'. Try clearing your IE cache and Temp Internet Files, etc. Some other ways to determine your cache is full if IE doesn't allow you to View Source
Try saving any image off any site. Does the file name default to "image.bmp" or "*.bmp"? If it does then your cache is definitely full.
Some other tweaks while you're in there to help debugging, especially the 'Every time I visit...'!

Good day.
So, here is my issue.
I'm currently using sharepoint 2010 for web applications, I am supposed to display pdf as part of a web page. Currently, the browser tends to download the pdf file instead of displaying it.
Content-disposition is already set to inline.
I've also used iframe, and src is pointing to custom httpHandler.
I've already added "application/pdf" MIME type in the list of AllowedInlineDownloadedMimeTypes as per the advice in this link http://www.pdfshareforms.com/sharepoint-2010-and-pdf-integration-series-part-1/.
However, the application still failed to display it, and it prompts the user to download the file instead.
I'm using mozilla firefox v12 and ie8 to test the application, they both exhibit the same behavior.
What else is missing? Thank you.
It's important to remember that not all browsers, especially older ones like Internet Explorer 8, have the ability to render PDF content inline. In these older browsers, this was generally accomplished through plug-ins like Adobe Reader or Foxit being installed on the client machine.
Basically, if you are using an older browser, your users will likely need one of these (or a similar) plug-in installed. Otherwise when the browser encounters a PDF file, it will serve it to the user, as it doesn't really know how to deal with it.
There is also a chance that this could be a permissions / settings issue similar to the one addressed in this related question. You may want to review over some of the discussions within that thread as well as this Sharepoint 2010 one, which details a a setting called "Browser File Handling" and how it's default value of "strict" can affect how PDFs and other files are accessed.
He came across the solution while looking at the "Web Application General Settings". There is a setting called Browser File Handling and by default it is set to strict.
When I double click on .aspx pages in my web application project in VS2010, instead of showing the mark up in the ide the .aspx pages are opening in the web browser as shown below. The same is happening when I run my application it opens all the .aspx pages in the web browser along the application url i.e., http://localhost123456/default.aspx. I have to close all the other pages except the http://localhost123456/default.aspx to run/ test my application. Not sure what would cause this to happen. I am not able to find any solutions so far, any help is appreciated. I used the option View Markup (Rightclick on aspx page -> view Markup) to see the markup for now.
Update
As per Mike's answer I checked the options under Open with... and I do have a Internet Explorer (Default) set as shown in the following image. Not sure how did it got there.
Deleting the Internet Explorer (Default) option might be cumbersome if I have lot of .aspx pages , if there is a way to remove this option at once for all .aspx pages rather than right clicking on each and every .aspx and remove it that would be great.
As per #JB King suggestion I did checked the file properties and all the .aspx files are set with Opens with: Microsoft Visual Studio option as shown it the image below.
Right-click any .aspx file in the project, select Open With...
In the screen that pops up, select Web Form Editor, then click the Set as Default button.
Not sure how you got Internet Explorer as an option here, but if it is there, you can just delete it. It's not applicable for loading the aspx from disk. Rather, to see the rendered page in IE, you'd do View in Browser or Browse With... (in which you can set your default browser, as well).
Your address bar shows you're loading files directly from disk. This won't work. ASP.NET is not lilke static HTML. ASP.NET applications must be run from within a webserver. Install IIS and ensure ASP.NET is installed and configured, or use the Debugging Webserver (IIS Express) in Visual Studio.
If you look at the properties of the file, there should be a line of Opens with: that is where you want to have Visual Studio rather than Internet Explorer as the issue is with which programs are mapped to what file extension. Microsoft instructions if you want those as specific steps to do.
I made a lot of research on this topic but none of the found solutions helped me.
So, let's start: I have a VB ASP.NET WEB Application.
The problem is the users can see the source code of the aspx files in the browser (IE) when the Display intranet sites in Compatibility View is unchecked.
I tried all of the methods, settings compatibility from IIS, web.config or even from the meta tags from <head>.
I discovered that also with the checkbox unchecked if I use Enterprise Mode the browser displays the page ok.
I tried then to find a solution to force the Enterprise Mode from code but I didn't find anything without changing registry keys. Changing registry keys can also be done to the above checkbox.
If I go in the DOM Explorere in IE and I try editing the source, anything I delete from there, the page is displayed ok.
How can I force the Enterprise Mode, or the Compatility View Mode from code? or is there another solution for me to solve this problem?
In my opinion you need to check the caching of the application if you say that if you modify something in DOM the page appears.
I'm just starting to play with Durandal, using the starter kit. I've added a very simple new view/viewmodel combination (essentially a copy/paste of an existing one from the sample) and mapNav()'d the route.
The problem is happening when I try to refresh my browser...the new view simply does not appear. It's not in the nav bar, nor can I navigate directly to the view by typing in the address bar. I know the code is (or should be?!) correct because if I go to the page in a different browser, everything appears as it should.
Is there some browser caching that Durandal is doing somehow? Sometimes F5 or Ctrl+F5 works to refresh, sometimes it doesn't. I also can't deep-link to a specific 'page'. Ie:
http://localhost:52625/#/newpage just gives me a blank
What am I missing?
The option that I use in Chrome is to open developer tools and right-click on the refresh button. There is an option for 'Empty Cache and Hard Reload' which always fixes this issue for me. I don't know the equivalent in IE but try this and see if it fixes your issue.
Most browsers will cache modules returned via RequireJS, which is how Durandal obtains its modules and view models.
CTRL+F5 doesn't help because that just refreshes the initial page - all the modules are still requested using javascript (RequireJS), so they are usually pulled from cache first.
I've found it's best to disable caching in your browser's developer tools. Doing so will ensure that all network requests are loaded directly from the source and not from cache.
See this question for additional information: Debugging when using require.js cache
Another solution is configure RequireJS to set its urlArgs property: https://stackoverflow.com/a/8479953/91189
This solution works ok, but makes it harder to debug, at least in Chrome, because breakpoints are lost every time the module is loaded, since it's technically a different file being requested each time.
I'm getting a weird issue involving IIS and IE, and I'll try to describe it clearly.
I have a regular html-css-js/jquery website that I've developed locally. Now that it's ready, I'm trying to deploy it on a server.
Once it's hosted on the server, I see two problems in IE only:
The rendering is slightly different: there's a few pixels of additional white space all around my website (so the contents is actually more 'compressed' than when viewed locally).
Some JS issues: I'm using the Impromptu jQuery popup plug-in, and the callback I specify in its 'loaded' event pre-populates its forms fields. In FF it works, but in IE the fields don't get populated until I close the popup and open it again. This worked locally on all browsers.
As weird as it sounds, the text in my jQuery popup dialog does not seem to have the 'ClearType' technology applied. The text is like '1 pixel thin' and not anti-aliased like everywhere else.
I have uploaded my website to another server and it runs perfectly fine. The issue is that I need to put it on the first server and I don't know what's wrong. Both servers are on Win 2k3 with IIS 6, .NET 3.5.
Any pointers as to what is going wrong? Thanks a lot.
Make sure that the "security zone" in the Internet Explorer status bar is the same when viewing the site between the 2 servers.
Use the IE developer toolbar to debug your css. Could also be a caching issue if it looks like an older version.
