Does someone knows of a user control that can work exactly like the file upload Google has?
I want that the use will select the files to upload, then that upload will start and the progress bar will work, and the user can continue to the next field he has to fill in the page as the file is uploaded in the background.
Willing to pay. Free is better.
Thanks
I recently used AjaxUploader with great results. One of its demos is actually GMail Style. It runs $99 for 1 domain.

I am trying to find a way to allow our customers to capture the contents of an iframe window and upload to our website. Essentially, we need to be able to have them log in to one of several different websites (embedded in an iframe within our website), look up the requested document, and then capture the contents of the iframe and upload it to our webserver\SQLDB. I have looked at using usersnap tool which sort of does the trick through email but I don't see a way to have it capture the full iframe window and autosend. The tool needs to be hard-coded to do a full frame capture and directly upload (without the users having the ability to alter or edit the document).
Any suggestions?
You can use the Usersnap tool nearly without user interaction by hiding the button: http://usersnap.com/support/docs/javascriptext#nobutton, but however: the user has to send the screenshot by herself.
You can reach the Usersnap developers (full disclosure: including me), perhaps an easy idea can help you.
I have an online magazine with news articles and i want to make an open graph action that everytime a user reads an article a story to post in his timeline.
I have all the nececery open graph tags in my urls and a login button with publish_actions scope.
I'm one step away from submitting the action for approval but i still cant figure out one thing.
The facebook's documentation says that i need to give users an option to stop auto publishing or remove the app etc. something like the image in the middle of this page http://developers.facebook.com/docs/opengraph/actions/builtin/#read .
I saw it also on yahoo and its exacly the same.
How can i make something like this in my site? The code is ready somewhere or i have to write it myself?
Thanks in advance!
The permission remove, or just a switch to stop publish of action and the delete article functions will have to be developed by you.
I am working on the same things for my app.
creating user CP control panel containing, revoke perms buttons.
a user CP to swich publishing on and off, via true/false in mysql
an array of app activities with delete buttons.
I've got a Flex 3 project. One of the problems I have is that not very much of its content is indexed by Google. Currently, I pull data from a mySQl database, so the Googlebot doesn't see most of the site.
My goal is to increase the amount of content indexed by Google, improve the SEO, and improve SERPs.
I thought that instead of pulling the data from the database that I would change the project's architecture and create separate "pages". So, in my case, I would compile each puzzle separately and upload it to the server in its own directory. This way the info in each puzzle would get indexed.
The negative is that if I add a puzzle, I'd have to add a link to it in all of the puzzles that are already on the server. I would have to add the link, re-compile each puzzle and upload it to the server. Is there a way to get around this problem? Also, if I wanted to communicate some data from one puzzle to another in the future, I wouldn't be able to do so.
Any suggestions?
Thank you.

The usual way to achieve this goal is to develop a hidden parallel site in HTML.
On the first page you will have your flash and, hidden by javascript, a list of links to the other pages. These links will be parsed by the robots. Ideally, the href pages are virtual (look for "url rewriting"). On each "fake" page, your server-side language will print on the page a content or links from your database AND the flash. The flash will be provided with a string explaining where it is and what it's supposed to show.
Ex: http://www.mysite.com/category1/content7 The URL rewriting sends this request to http://www.mysite.com/index.php?uri=category1/content7. The page should display the Flash with FlashVar "uri=category1/content7". The Flash knows which content it has to display so when an user comes from google, following this link, he will find the content he was looking for.
Every linking and content for SEO should be in HTML, don't trust robots capability of reading Flash.
have a look at Adobe's reference on deep-linking.
you can generate a website's sitemap.xml with a cron process (daily), such that the URLs encode the state of the application you need. This URL will encode whatever content you need to retrieve from the db, with just one index.html page.
good luck!
I'm looking at embedding youtube videos onto a webpage (a Drupal webpage if that helps), but I need to figure out what people will see if their business/workplace/country blocks youtube access.
Does it show 'video no longer available', does it not show anything?, does it add a class or ID to the embedded html to let css, or a scripting language know that there is an error.
I would like to be able to swap the embedded code out for a gif or something else. So users that can't access youtube will not be left with what ever youtube decides to show them.
Any tips would be great.
I tried editing the hosts file to test myself but it wouldn't take for some reason.
Cheers.
EDIT: * first-question *
This can be achieved using javascript.
In your script call a resource that is located on youtube. Since it's javascript running in the client browser, the request will comes from it and not your website.
If the request fail, the client has no access to youtube.
Did I mention that relying on external resources you can't control is bad ?
User click on a link button and it will direct them to a url that is dynmaically generated which a pdf file. The browser will prompt the user to either save or open it.
I want to know if it is possible to downlaod the pdf file to the server then show the pdf file in the asp.net web page. When i google on this question, 99% of top link are some third party component. Is it a way to do this without purchase any 3rd party component?
thank
I use itextsharp, its a free open source c# port of the java itext library.
Makes generating dynamic pdfs in asp.net a breeze and there is lots of documentation/examples floating around.
I don't think that you'll have much luck without a 3rd party component. First, the issue isn't showing the PDF, it is generating it. For that, you'll need a library to help. Rolling one yourself would not be cheaper unless you have an enormous amount of unpaid time on your hands.
With respect to third-party controls, I recommend and use DynamicPDF from CeTe.
Yes there is a way to do this without a 3rd party tool, but it involves coding a PDF-to-html translator.
If this is something for a business, the RoI for the 3rd party control is that you don't have to spend hundreds of hours coding & testing this component, when you could buy one for just a few hundred dollars.
Now, an alternative is to code a page which displays the data in the same way which the PDF file generates it (this could actually be handled by RDLC). So that when the user clicks the link button, they are taken to this display page, from which they can download the PDF version if they want a local copy.
Regardless of how you generate the PDF, I have found a better user experience if you open the PDF in an IFRAME instead of the full browser window. You can give users instructions and maintain the browser navigation.
I think what you want to do is by going to: http://my_site.com/generate-pdf.aspx?=someId
this should in fact just show the PDF file?
What you need to do is change the Response type.
See here for how to do this with images.
Look up the Content-Disposition HTTP header. You can send back a value that requests the content be displayed inline instead of downloaded.
