Limit frontblock to display articles/stories only in Drupal - drupal

I am new to drupal, so sorry for this noob question, but I was wondering how to display articles only in the central column. Currently there are also blog entries, etc and I would like to get rid of them. I have a Views plugin installed but I am not sure how to do this.

In your View create a filter for Node: Type. Here, you can tell it specifically what kind of content to show.

you can change your frontpage settings in admin/settings/site-information
so let's say you created a view - with a page display
set the page url of your view (eg. articles), and then in your settings (the path i mentioned before) you set the drupal frontpage to the page path of your view (that would be 'articles')
i hope that's clear enough for you

Permalink Goes to Old Page

I have been working on a site created by another developer. I have been fixing the site to make it more visually appealing. I am also responsible for adding new events and pictures which i self taught myself to do.
I have a situation where I have a page with the following permalink:
http://www.cic-nj.org/events/
The problem is that this link goes to a page that does not show the edits that i am making under that page and there is no other page listed that shows the info it actually displays.
this is what I have in the editor box on wordpress that I want it to show.
enter image description here
this is what appears when url is used or when i click view
enter image description here
I have been sure to click update and renewing page to view it. it's like its going to a ghost page i can not edit.
Can anyone point me in the right direction on this?
Thanks in advance...
You are experiencing "slug collision": more than one thing in your WP install has the same slug.
The problem that you have is events is a custom post type, with a slug set to events - therefore the url http://www.cic-nj.org/events/ is directing to the listing of events. This is an automatic feature of WordPress. (Note - you can see more details to support this conclusion by the fact that you've got individual events accessible at url's such as http://www.cic-nj.org/events/blue-apron-info-session/ )
Note that custom post type slugs will always take priority over a page / post slug.
You have a couple of options:
If you want a page to display the content that you've created, the page's slug / permalink must be different than events
If it's acceptable, you can rename the slug of the "events" custom post type to something different. This has the potential consequence of losing SEO "juice".
If it's acceptable, you can remove the custom post type, if you aren't going to use them any longer.
NOTE: It may be tempting to ask "how do I remove the custom post type", or "how do I change the post type slug". Those are different questions, and if you need to ask, they should be asked in a different question - not added as a comment below.

Taxonomy block view shows no content

I am using Drupal 8.
I am trying to create a block display to show a list of teasers with the taxonomy term of the current node, within a custom region.
The problem is that when I navigate to the page which contains the custom region no content is displayed.
Other blocks display fine when assigned to the custom region so I don't think its anything to do with my templates.
The same view also has a page display (basically the default taxonomy term view) which shows content correctly when i navigate to the node.
I am a relative Drupal newbie so may be missing something obvious here but as far as i can tell the taxonomy view works as a page but not as a region, so either it must be something to do with the block configuration, or Drupal is just not meant to work like this.
Can anybody suggest what might be causing this, or if this is a bad approach explain why?
are u using exposed filters in your view ?
For it to work in blocs , u need to configure in your view
ajax:on

alter content administration page (admin/content)

I'm working on some drupal installation and googled the whole day, but I can't figure out an answer to the following question:
How is it possible to alter the admin/content page in a way that specific roles are only able to see or filter out limited content types?
Please notice that I don't want to restrict node access in general, I just want to make this page less confusing for editors with different roles and tasks.
I know there is the administration views module and there I can set filter fields in the way I want. The problem with this is that I'm not able to enter the views access restrictions and so all I can do is limit the view's content types for all roles.
Can somebody give me a hint how to solve this?
Thank you very much and sorry for bad english.
One way would be to make a custom module.
In this module you would create a page with hook_menu().
https://api.drupal.org/api/drupal/modules%21system%21system.api.php/function/hook_menu/7
Then in the page callback function that you create you load global $user and switch between the $user->roles, out putting different HTML lists of links depending on their role. If you want something a little more dynamic you can always load the various content types with node_type_get_types().
Then go into structure -> menus -> navigation and disable the default link, replacing it with the new page you created.
If you aren't 100% clear on how to do a couple of these things comment here and I will update my answer.

Drupal 7 vocabulary page

I've created a custom page for a specific vocabulary (using zen theme)
page--vocabulary--2.tpl.php
Works so far as I can customise the page, but I cannot for the life of me work out how to render a custom field (field_banner). Very new to drupal, I can find the field at
$page['content']['term']['#term']->field_banner
Basically, on a per 'term' basis, I want to display an array of images (field_banner) at the header of the template. Hope my question makes sense, still overwhelmed by the Drupal way of thinking, so rather confused!
Firstly you need to make sure the field gets loaded on that page. Is it a node ?
What I suggest is you install the dev module and when you see your page you should see dev tab. In that tab you need to find your field set to access. Once you find it in the list then you can access it in your template file.
The code should look something like this
$node->field_link['und'][0]['value']

How to embed a node on homepage in Drupal 6?

How can I embed a node on the front page in Drupal 6. The node basically has the image upload field along with title and description. I want it to some how appear on the homepage alongwith a "views" which shows the uploaded images at the bottom.
What I want is to give the users an ability to create content which is right now available at .../node/photo/add. I want to somehow show this box which lets one create content i.e. upload photo with title and description on the homepage.
It's basically just an attempt at creating something like imageshack as an experiment.
I am pretty n00b when it comes to drupal so please be more descriptive.
Jukebox's solution works as a point-and-click method. If you want to do it with code, it's more like this:
create a glue module Handbook | Example Blog Post
turn it on in admin/build/modules
create a menu item using hook_menu() that will become the page
embed the node with node_view()
embed the view (blog post)
in admin/settings/site-information set your page to the
You can use the Node Blocks module to, well, turn your node into a block. This means that you can go to the /admin/build/block page and place your node in a particular region.
After installing the module, edit the Content Type of the node you want to turn into a block. Under Workflow Settings, Available As Block, choose Enable.
Now you can go to /admin/build/block and you can see some new blocks. Just choose the one you want and place it in the region of your choice. You can also configure that block's visibility settings from there as well.
If your planning on having a more complicated home page at any point in the future I'd highly recommend using Panels to do this. It will allow you to arrange your front page with views and nodes in a grid method.
