I basically have quite a large site collection with various site and sub sites that all contain their own document libraries. I need to change the default view of each document library to include the following fields:
Checked out to.
Check in comments.
This is ok as I have written an app that will loop through all existing lists and do this however is there a way I can change the template for a document library so that any future lists that are created will automatically contain these two fields in the their default view?
I am using WSS 3.0.
Thanks
In WSS 3.0 there is no supported way to modify the out of the box document library
If you don't mind the risk of your change being overwritten by updates then you can modify
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\TEMPLATE\FEATURES\DocumentLibrary\DocLib\schema.xml"
In SPF 2010 you can make your changes in a ListAdded event receiver.

I have an Alfresco module that I would like to have do some cleanup when a new version of it is installed.
In the current situation, an older version of the module created a folder node with custom properties at the root of the repository. We've since decided to have multiple such nodes, and none of them at that location. I'd like to put into the next version of the module code that would run at Alfresco startup, check for the existence of the old node, copy its properties into the appropriate new nodes, and delete the old node.
Is such a thing possible? I've looked at the Bootstrap configuration file, but that appears to only allow one to add things to the repository, not modify or delete them.
My suggestion is that you write a patch. That is a class that implements
org.alfresco.repo.admin.patch.AbstractPatch
Then you can do pretty much anything you want on bootstrap (except executing searches against solr since it wont be available).
Add some spring configuration, take a look at the file patch-services-context.xml for inspiration.
Yes you can do that, probably you missed the correct place in the documentation about that:
If you open Import Strategy you'll find a section Per BootstrapView, you should be using something like REPLACE_EXISTING or UPDATE_EXISTING for your ACP packaged content (if you're using ACPs as your bootstrap importing strategy).
Here is a more detailed description of the UUID Bindings values.
Hope that helps.
You can use patches.
When alfresco server starts it applies patches and executes database updates etc.
Definition :
A patch is a piece of Java code that executes once when Alfresco
Content Services starts. Custom patches can be implemented.

I have a neat class that is able to mergefields within a Word document based on a Datarow object containing the data I require to turn a Word 2007 docx template into a real Word document with the data embedded inside the Word document, and using OpenXML (forget Interop!). That's working for me.
However, I am having a royal pain to get the template loaded into my asp.net (.net2) project in Visual Studio 2005. Everytime I think I've "embedded" the Word document into the project, when I try and access it, I get this exception ...
Value cannot be null.
Parameter name: The Template File does not exists.
This error appears from a resource project (compiled in VS2008) DLL file that checks the existance of the file before it continues. I know that's the cause of the problem but why Fileinfo.Exists is always false, when I know the file is there!? The file is in the same server as the project resides, but in a different location to the project.
So the question really should say, why Fileinfo.Exists returns false all the time.
Never the less, I need to store this Word document inside the project itself, so my other need is to know how to embedd a Word document inside my asp.net project to keep it "contained" within the same one solution AND to get Fileinfo to recognise it DOES exist.
Thank you
I found it!
It was simply adding the file to my existing project using Add Existing ...
I then placed the file inside a folder within my project (any folder) and simply referencing it with ...
System.IO.File.Exists(Server.MapPath("FeedbackFormTemplate.docx"));
This generates a full path and filename with extension ready to be used elsewhere in the project.
I have doubt regarding windows phone 8 application development. The database using sqlite for windows phone 8 is pre-loaded into the application or it should be created dynamically at the time of installation in windows phone..? and if it is pre-loaded then how to create the database.db file..?? and also if it is dynamically created, what is the procedure to create dynamically...??
I would say, pre-loaded into the application is the very common way.
Take a look at this article, I think the steps to accomplish your task are quite the same: http://wp.qmatteoq.com/import-an-already-existing-sqlite-database-in-a-windows-8-application/
The first step is to copy your database in to the Visual Studio project and, from the Properties window, set the Build action to Content.
Once you’ve done this operation, you’ll be able to access to the files embedded in your project thanks to the Package.Current.InstalledLocation object that is available in the Windows.ApplicationModel namespace.
The InstalledLocation’s type is StorageFolder, which is the base class of all the folders mapping in WinRT: for this reason, it exposes all the standard methods to interact with the storage, like getting a file or a folder. This way we can use the GetFileAsync method to get a reference to the database embedded into the project and, after that, using the CopyAsync method we can copy it into the local storage of the application. We can copy it in the root of the local storage (like in the following example) or in a specific folder, by getting a reference to it first using the GetFolderAsync method.
For those who are not able to work with sqlite I would like to suggest them to follow this link : http://dotnetslackers.com/articles/silverlight/Windows-Phone-7-Native-Database-Programming-via-Sqlite-Client-for-Windows-Phone.aspx and when you are dumping the data into the project .. you just need to change the properties of the "database1.sqlite" i.e. Build Action = resource . Thats all you need to do ..
I imported a Form object from a text file. When I try to compile it I get the following error message:
This message is for C/AL programmers:
The OLE control or Automation Server identified by 'Microsoft Common Dialog Control 6.0 (SP3)'.CommonDialog requires a design time license.
This license cannot be obtained.
Make sure that the OLE control or Automation server is installed correctly with an appropriate license"
I am developing in Dynamics NAV using a developer license. The OCX is registered correctly, gets listed in NAV's "Custom Controls" as pointing to "C:\Windows\SysWOW64\comdlg32.ocx".
Why am I not allowed to compile the object?
The license in question is, as you said, purely for using the CommonDialog component in design-time environments. This has nothing to do with your NAV license or your customers being able to run code that uses the component. The design-time license (which is nothing more than a key in your system registry; not an actual license file) used to get installed with e.g. Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 or older versions of Microsoft Visual Studio.
If you have access to VB6.0 or VS2005, you can use VB6Controls.reg on the installation disk as described here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;318597.
As the message said, the components loads, try to get a license and don't get one. So you don't have one as it says or you don't have it in the path lookup the components looks at it.
There is one more trick you can do to fix this problem and avoid installing a lot of crap like VB6.0.
This message is related to certain automation type variable in the object you trying to compile.
You can copy this variable from any other compiled object in other database or any other compiled object in the same database. And then your imported object will magically compile. Just delete the variable from your imported object's variable list and copy it from compiled object with copy-paste.
I don't know what magic is that but it worked for me many times. I copied variable from the same object in restored backup of the database.
I've struggled with a better solution for the following setup. I'm not actively working on this, but know some that might appreciate other ways of handling this.
Setup:
Tridion-managed page has a single "linked list" component Linked list
Single component has component links to other components in Tridion
Linked-to components often link to multimedia component (mm)
An XSLT component template (XSLT CT) renders XML with above content and with links to PDF
XSL document() function used to grab embedded (linked-to) content, all content converted to XML nodes and attributes
TCMScriptAssistant namespace with publishBinary() publishes related PDF and other media
Page template just outputs the result of the CT
Business requirements:
improved publishing (last I worked on this, some of these files created a 2GB publishing transaction because of the PDFs)
published XML content file must reference the associated PDFs; hyperlinks work but identifiers might not help because of...
no Tridion content delivery APIs, mainly for independence from the storage database but also to avoid Tridion-specific code on the presentation server (loosely coupled setup and less training for developers)
The biggest issue is the huge transport package during publishing. The second problem is publishing any of the linked-to PDFs will cause the page to republish.
How could this setup be improved or re-engineered, preferably without too many changes to the existing templates, though modular templating could be considered.
Dynamic component presentations could possibly work, but would need to be published to the file system and not use dynamic linking or broker objects (e.g. no criteria filters, binary metadata, etc).
There are indeed 2 questions. I will handle them in reverse order.
To prevent the page from being republished when you publish a binary, you can use the event system in older versions of Tridion (pre-2011) to turn off link resolving, or with newer versions you can use a custom resolver to prevent this. There is an article by Nuno which explains this(http://nunolinhares.blogspot.com/2011/10/tridion-publisher-and-custom-resolvers.html)
Your second one is a bit tougher, in no small part because of your criteria for not using the SDL Tridion CD APIs. I would have suggested publishing the binaries separately (this would keep the file size down of your transaction package), and using Binary Linking to resolve the paths at request time.
Given this is not an option, I think the only was I would approach it would be to still use dynamic component presentations, and then use predictable unique file names for the PDfs (i.e. use something like 317-12345.pdf based on the URI), and use one directory for all the binaries. That way you could enter the paths to the binary using your XSLT template, as you know where the binaries will be located later. You could then use a custom resolver to publish the binaries when you publish the main list component or page.
Hope that helps
