I have a pop-up menu in a QTableWidget (resultTable). In the constructor of my class I set the context menu policy:

Now, I need to implement a function to test my GUI using the QtTest lib.
How can I produce the same result as a user by right clicking on my resultTable? Basically, I need to get access to the actionExport (QAction) and trigger it.
For example:
I already tried:
QTest::mouseClick(resultTable, Qt::RightButton, Qt::NoModifier, pos, delay);
but it does not show the QMenu.
I'm using Qt 5.3.2.

Maybe not entirely what you are after but an alternative approach that is easier to test.
Instead of creating the menu manually you register the actions with the widgets and use Qt::ActionContextMenu:
// e.g. in the widget's constructor
resultTable->setContextMenuPolicy(Qt::ActionsContextMenu);
QAction* actionExport = menu.addAction(QIcon(":/new/prefix1/FileIcon.png"), tr("Export"));
connect(actionExport, SIGNAL(triggered()), this, SLOT(exportResultsTable()));
resultTable->addAction(actionExport);
Then you either add an accessor to your widget that returns resultTable->actions() or just make actionExport a member of your class.
Once your test code has access to the action it can simply call its trigger trigger() method.

Triggering an action based on its custom shortcut

Suppose I have some action to happen. For that I can create a QAction object and connect its triggered() signal to the slot that executes the desired function. Also, I can have a shortcut associated with the action; by changing the shortcut I'll be able to execute the same action with that shortcut.
My problem now is that the "shortcut" I wanna set to the action, contains also a mouse button press (and mouse events cannot be assigned to action shortcuts); say I want Shift+Left mouse button. Maybe this sounds a little bit harsh but bear with me.
What do I need? Well, I have a button, and an action (say "execute a script"). I want the script to execute when Shift+Left click is clicked, and I want this "shortcut" to be customized, i.e. the user should be able to change to shortcut to, say Ctrl+Left click (from some GUI element, e.g. button text), and now Ctrl+Left click should execute the script.
How can I achieve this?
Note: I as a user would expect an action triggered by a mouse button to be position dependent. If so, the following gets a bit simpler.
Qt doesn't have an option to specify such a shortcut.
You can roll your own by reacting to mouse events:
Maybe you have an event handler mousePressEvent(),
or a generic eventFilter(QObject *obj, QEvent *evt),
or utilize QApplication::notify
Whichever, at some place you need to catch a QMouseEvent *mouseEvt.
Choose the widget (or qApp) that is as outmost as needed.
There, compare mouseEvt->button() and mouseEvt->modifiers() to your list of actions and trigger the selected action. When the user chooses another trigger method, adjust your list of actions.
Let's put this to practice:

How to programmatically close QMenu

I have pretty specific situation. I want to place a QAction into QToolbar and reach following behaviour:
Checkable QAction with icon.
Classic arrow on the right side which is used for showing menu
By pressing this arrow my QDialog should appears on screen instead of QMenu-like one
Now I'm a bit confused with implementing all this things together.
For now I've created QAction added it to toolbar and also created an empty QMenubecause I didn't get the idea of how to add the "dropdown" arrow another way.
So, I also connected my slot to QMenu aboutToShow() signal and now, I can create my dialog and exec() it just before QMenu shows. But here's the main problem appears: after I did everything with my dialog an click OK button QMenu trying to appear, but as it is empty it shows nothing and further actions become available only after I left-click somwhere to "close" this menu.
Is there any way to force QMenu not to show or can inherit from QMenu and reimplemnt its behaviour (I've tried to do such trick with exec() show() popup() methods of QMenu after subclassing from it, but none of them are being called when menu appears on the screen) ?

QTreeWidget right click menu

I looked around and it seems that the problem is present not only for tree widget but also for other widgets. But in my case, I found a solution, although an incomplete one. I am adding actions to my tree widget, so that when you right click on it, a popup with these actions appears. However, when I add items to my tree widget and I right click on them, the same popup appears.
What I would like to do is that when you right click on the tree widget, a tree widget popup menu appears and when you right click on items, another corresponding popup menu appears. Does anybody knows how to do this?
First,config QTreeWidget to response(emit signal) right mouse click:

First you should set the context menu policy to CustomContextMenu:
treeView->setContextMenuPolicy(Qt::CustomContextMenu);
Then you can connect to the QWidget::customContextMenuRequested(const QPoint&) signal and show your context menu.
For those who prefer to use designer more, here is another way to do it:
1) Set context menu policy to custom context menu
Either by code:
ui->treeWidget->setContextMenuPolicy(Qt::CustomContextMenu);
or using graphical designer, click on the tree widget and set it using Property Editor:
2) Create Handler function
In designer, right click on the treeWidget and select "Go to Slot..." option. A window similar to this will appear:
Click on the "CustomContextMenuRequested(QPoint)" option. Handler function will be defined, declared, and it will be connected automatically.

This step can also be done by defining and connecting the slot function yourself.
3) Create the options on the context menu.
Go to action editor tab (Usually docked at the bottom of designer). Add actions you want to have on context menu by clicking new button on top left. You will encounter such an interface :
You can (optionally) have a tooltip or icon for the action, or make it checkable. You can crate a shortcut like Ctrl+C for a copy action.
4) Create the menu and fire it

Like in step 2, either create slot function and connect it manually, or right-click on on an action, click the "Go to slots..." option and select triggered() slot.

Take a look at overloading QAbstractItemModel and providing your own OnContextMenuRequested. Via this function you can have different items create different context menus.

Drag and drop widget outside source application widgets

I have a Qt Desktop aplication which has several top-level widgets. Subwidgets of top-level widgets can be moved between top-level widgets by using drag-and-drop mechanism.
The problem i have now is to drop a sub-widget outside any of existing top-level widgets and create a new top-level widget to contain this one. Lets call this separation.
Can this be done using drag-and-drop? I could not find a way where my dropEvent goes?
Can i want to handle the drop event in my application even if the drop place is not allowed? Maybe a mouse release or something?
I cannot change everything now but also a question for the future. Is docking/undocking a better way to do this?

I found a way to do this. When drag moves outside of the application widgets QDrag object emits a targetChanged signal with 0 parameter.
So i inherited from QDrag and then emit a custom signal in destructor if the target() is null.
The only problem is that the cursor looks like interdiction of drop and this i could not fix because QDrag can only set cursor pixmap for valid actions like Move or Copy or Link

The tearOff signal should be connected to whatever you want to happen. In my case i pull out the widget from the tab and change parent to a new window.

On Qt widgets like DoubleSpinBox or ComboBox, how do i have custom right click menu

I have a few combo-boxes and double spin boxes on my Qt Dialog. Now I need a "ResetToDefault" item on a menu that comes up when you right click on the widget (spin box or combo box).
How do i get it. Is there some way I can have a custom menu that comes up on right click or Is there a way i can add items to the menu that comes on right click.
First, for Qt4, the simplest way is to create an action to reset the data, and add it the the widget using the addAction method (or use the designer). Then, set the contextMenuPolicy attribute to Qt::ActionsContextMenu. The context menu will appear and the action will be triggered.
Code example:

For Qt3, you might have to intercept the context menu event, and thus inherit the QSpinBox and others. Or maybe you can intercept the context menu event from the main window, detect if it occurred above the widget supposed to have a context menu (using the QWidget::childAt method) and show it there. But you'll have to test.
For Qt4, you can do this for an editable QComboBox by using your own QLineEdit. Create a derived QLineEdit class which implements the contextMenuEvent

Then, use the setLineEdit function of QComboBox to set the line edit

The combo box will now use your line edit class. The createStandardContextMenu function creates the normal context menu and you can add any new actions to it that you like in the contextMenuEvent handler before it is shown.
If the QComboBox is not editable then it doesn't have a default context menu so using the Qt::ActionsContextMenu method is much simpler.
QAbstractSpinBox also has a setLineEdit function so you can use a similar technique. Although, for some reason the setLineEdit function is protected on QAbstractSpinBox but public on QLineEdit.
