I tried to install Meteor on another system. Installation go well, then I copied my project and I am running meteor run but
"Extracting meteor-tool#1.4.0-1" it is happening forever. Then I tried to update version number to 1.4.1 and run again "meteor run". Now I do not need to install 1.4.0.1 so it worked but got stuck on extracting on other modules.
Possible reasons can be extraction program of this is release is faulty. Would someone suggest a solution or how can I download 1.4.0.1 release of meteor directly?

I found the answer of this problem. This is problem with tar extractor.
I installed the newest 7zip and renamed the tar.exe in my GIT program folder ("where tar" command in cmd revealed, that somehow that exe was associated with .tar archives) to tar.exe.old.
If you can not find where is tar then run "where tar" command to get path of tar.exe
This solves the problem.
Take a look at this answer: https://stackoverflow.com/a/40122752/6861101
Try adding the following to your local hosts file (C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts):
54.192.225.217 warehouse.meteor.com
Then run a meteor reset in your app directory (warning - will wipe your local DB), then try starting your app again.
This worked for me.

Background
I suddenly started getting a Meteor error:
~/.meteor/packages/meteor-tool/.1.4.0-1.1b1o7uq++os.osx.x86_64+web.browser+web.cordova/mt-os.osx.x86_64/dev_bundle/lib/node_modules/fibers/bin/darwin-x64-v8-4.5/fibers.node is missing. Try reinstalling node-fibers?`
After extensive searching, I came to the conclusion that there isn't a known, straight-forward solution to this problem.
Possible Solution
I created a new Meteor project and that works. This is because it is at the latest version of Meteor, and fibers.node is properly installed in the 1.6 (latest version) directory.
The best solution looks to be removing my live project directory and recreating it with the same name (at Meteor's latest version) and then retrieving all the packages, settings and files (HTML, JS, CSS)
Question
What is the best way to do this so that:
I preserve all the packages that I have installed (there are many)
I preserve all the custom settings that have changed from default
I am able to bring all my files (I am assuming this will be simple copy of *.html, *.css and *.js from the original project)
I was able to resolve the error:
~/.meteor/packages/meteor-tool/.1.4.0-1.1b1o7uq++os.osx.x86_64+web.browser+web.cordova/mt-os.osx.x86_64/dev_bundle/lib/node_modules/fibers/bin/darwin-x64-v8-4.5/fibers.node is missing. Try reinstalling node-fibers?
so did not need to go down the reinstalling project path.
I followed the steps in the accepted answer on this thread:
How can I completely uninstall and then reinstall Meteor.js?
Specifically:
mv .meteor .meteor.bak
sudo rm /usr/local/bin/meteor
sudo chown -R $(whoami) ~/.npm/
curl https://install.meteor.com/ | sh
meteor --version -> This will pull the required package for the version your project is at.
I'm trying to host a meteor app that uses an old version of meteor.
Every time i try to start the app it will get somewhat through the process of installing the tool, and then i see a message such as:
Killednloading meteor-tool#1.1.3... -
(note how killed somehow overwrites the downloading part of the command line)
Is there a reliable way to install the meteor tool at a specific version?
EDIT:
The Meteor team added a release parameter to their download endpoint. Now you can simply specify the desired version:
curl "https://install.meteor.com/?release=1.3.3.1" | sh
For Windows, a version parameter exists for the choco installer:
choco install meteor --version 1.3.3.1
Original solution
You can use sed for that. Insert it in the middle of curl and sh:
curl https://install.meteor.com/ | sed 's/1.4/1.3.3.1/' | sh
That will replace the release 1.4 (current version) to 1.3.3.1
When you create a meteor app you can specify a release:
meteor create test --release x.y.z
And when you update a meteor app you can do the same:
meteor update --release x.y.z
#Jorge Issa's answer is good if you are installing Meteor from scratch, on a system that never had Meteor installed, however it's subject to change since versions change all the time, so you need to adapt the sed line.
If you have any version of Meteor already installed, as Michel Floyd mentioned, you can always create a project with a specific version by adding the --release flag.
meteor update --release xxxx works fine with you're actually upgrading, but downgrading is a different story.
My recommendation when it comes to upgrading and eventually downgrading, is to use version control (git).
Attempt upgrade and if all is fine, you're in good shape, if not and you want to downgrade, simply clear the file changes in your version control system and use meteor reset to clean your project and rebuild with the previous version.
!Note! meteor reset clears the local mongo database too, so be sure to back that up first if you're going to do that (check mongodump and mongorestore for that)
finally, if you're looking to clean up the clutter from the .meteor folder, you can delete the folder and then run meteor reset in your project: the meteor executable will detect you don't have the needed packages will re-download the packages for the version needed by your project. (This takes a while and if you have many project, can be cumbersome as you need to do this in each project, but if like me you are looking to clear some space, this works fine.)
Try:
meteor update --release x.y.z
Try
choco install meteor --x86 --params="'/RELEASE:1.5.4.4'"
I downloaded the Meteor's official Download from here: Meteor 1.2.1
and the installer is just 1.2mb
Now, after running it: Nothing happens. No permission. Nothing. This page is shown:
And then when I hit Skip this step, this is shown:
Even after restarting, there is no .meteor folder in AppData\Local directory, and Meteor command is still not recognised.
Also, I think, how can a 1.2mbinstall something like Meteor which is like 53mb when installed via curl on OSX or Linux.
Are the Meteor fooling windows? I dont know why the installer doesn't work. The point is: How can it?
Downloaded file is installer not setup.
First install the meteor in your machine.
Then set it in environment variable.
I searched and got answers on using CocoaPods but really i couldn't manage to use it because i didn't what they mean
1- Install CocoaPods 0.39.0 or later. -> i did install it using sudo command
"I stopped here, didn't know what to do"
2- In your Podfile, add use_frameworks! and pod 'RealmSwift' to your main and test targets.
3- From the command line, run pod install.
4- Use the .xcworkspace file generated by CocoaPods to work on your project!
sorry my question looks bad but it is my first time to ask a question here :)
Your list of steps is correct, and assuming CocoaPods installed correctly, you will then need to navigate to the directory of your .xcodeproj file.
In that directory, you can run the command pod init which will create a .podfile in the directory.
You can then continue onto steps 2-4.
However, as of writing this response, Realm's current release doesn't support Swift 2.1. We are actively working on an update for 2.1, which you can follow on this Github Issue.
Fow the last few days I used to work on STS. But today it is not launching and giving following window. So, I reinstalled STS. But the problem still exits. Can some one help in sorting it out?
I found the solution after few hours. Some guy had same problem and solved
here:
Eclipse is trying to get the version of java that is installed on system. you might have installed that latest one but there are possibilities that any upgradation of later softwares has replaced the java.exe files in system32 folder with older version. All you need to do is to run eclipse with clean parameters. Create a batch file in the directory where eclipse.exe is and write this line in it eclipse -clean -vmargs -Xmx256m
