I have a fb like button on my website but when a user clicks on the button the the pop up comments box is hidden behind the two elements (#centre and footer) and the user can do nothing with it.
My question is, How do I change the z-index of the flyout so when a user clicks the like button it appears in front of other elements?
I have looked at these questions and implemented their answers with no luck in fixing the issue:-
facebook iframe App: Send/Like button z-index issue
Other fixes I have found that did not work were:-
Elements that appear in front of/around the flyout should have overflow: visible; set. (From fb developers FaQ page.)
Changing the z-index of the classes that are listed in the answer from the link above.
Changing the width and z-index of a class generated by the iframe, and located in a script tag, called _56z-
All I would like is the flyout to appear on top of all elements on the page without having to change the layout.

Thank you for your time and help.
Change the z-index for your #centre and #footer div's to negative values. This should fix the problem.
Don't forget to change all of the other elements in relation to your site. You will be moving the #centre div to at least to z-index: -2 (to allow room for the #footer div to fit in at -1).
The following code fixes the problem entirely, without having to change the overflow or z-index of anything. You simply add the code below, and voila. HOWEVER, it will throw off your site's layout a little (it will flow over .. ha). Amazing fix, small catch. Borderline acceptable but the best solution I found. (Found it on the WP forums).
.fb-like span {
overflow: visible !important;
width: 450px !important;
margin-right: -375px;
}
I added
.fb-like span {
z-index: 999999999999999;
}
to my css and that fixed it. It isn't even marked as active, and deactivating it in developer tools doesn't change anything either. If I take it out of my CSS things go all stupid again though.

I am trying to design the first Book Now button of this page (https://www.bridgecitychrysler.com/book-service/) to overlap onto the white section below the hero image. Even though I have set the z-index incredibly high, it is not showing up in front of the section below.
If someone is able to figure this out just in the inspect tool, that would be great!
Thanks,
Looks like your .hero-widget css has overflow: hidden; set, disabling that seems to have made it visible!
Try removing position:relative from your button class.
This makes the button reappear, and then remove transform: translateX(-50%) from the a tag in the cta-container for proper alignment.
Use pointer-events:none for these type of situation, when click events is not working for overlapped content, use pointer-events:none
weird bug here. Searched on the internet for hours but no working solutions yet :(

It only happens on the page with parallax, a page without parallax is fine (biografie page).
What happens is that when you look closely, you will see that the white transparant-ish header flows OVER your scrollbar.
When taking a closer look you will see that the whole body is floating over my scrollbar.
Does anyone know a way to 100% fix this? I tried lots and lots of answers on the internet but none gave me a working solution.
Hope someone can explain to me what is happening and how to solve it.
Best regards
You can't place the menu below the scrollbar, because the scrollbar on pages with .parallax containers is not the <body>'s scrollbar, but .parallax's scrollbar.
And you can't place element A between element B and element B's scrollbar, unless element A is a descendant of element B.
However, the real problem is not placing the menu under the scrollbar. The real problem is being able to use the scrollbar (click its top arrow) through the menu, where they overlap.
Which is quite possible, using:
.menu {
pointer-events: none;
}
.menu-wrapper > * {
pointer-events: all;
}
(This makes the menu transparent to pointer events, except for children of .menu-wrapper, which do not overlap the scrollbar).
Only on chrome, the left sidebar menu disappears on hover. This does not happen at the top of the page but can be seen when scrolled midway of the page.

I figured out myself and was tired of people positing unrelated replies to make a fiddle out of a Joomla php based page with fontawesome icons, bootstrap, jquery and more and even better my css gets created by less. It was really a complicated 3 level menu system and people just said fiddle it without even looking at the example and screenshot. It could be possible to create a fiddle but would take a whole day for me ( I am not an expert, if so I would not ask the question here in the first place)
If you dont want to answer, that is perfectly fine and understandable but dont just say - This is no good without a fiddle when a demo and screenshot has been posted. Just move on - Be nice - everyone is fighting a hard battle here.
For anyone who is trying to make a 3 level menu, here is the answer.
The idea is to remove overflow property because that in conjunction with fixed position breaks in Chrome. Its a well known bug and has been reported. With overflow hidden removed, the next steps is to push the menu list items to the left. This makes the menu disappear but then used margin to push the icons only to the right. In short, move menu items to left so they are hidden and move icon only to the right. Remove overflow declarations in css as it breaks chrome.
.tm-sidebar .uk-navbar-nav li {margin-left: -175px;}
.tm-sidebar .uk-navbar-nav li a i {margin-left: 175px;}
My page is http://bonemarrow.ipage.com/contact/.
I'm using reCaptcha with Contact Form 7 under a Wordpress install. Without reCaptcha, my form looks fine and doesn't interfere with the look of the page. As soon as I pop in the reCaptcha, I new have a gap under the main content area, between it and my footer.
It seems like reCaptcha is pushing the footer div down by about the same height as the reCaptcha table itself. I tried wrapping it in a div of my own (#my_captcha) and setting a height, but that didn't work either.
I also thought it might be because of the way I style the labels and/or fields in my form, so I removed all the styling to see what would happen. No deal, even without styling reCaptcha still insists on introducing that gap.
Any help would be appreciated.
footer{
margin-top: -30px;
}
This is one way you could do it.
EDIT: Based on your comment...
Well you could just be more specific with your CSS for example like this
.some_specific_container footer{
margin-top: -30px
}
Assuming that form class only appears on the page I don't see a problem with that.
EDIT 2:
Just took another look, the problem is caused by the iframe, you currently have visibility:hidden if you add display:none you will fix it. No hacks required. The reason that is happening is because visibility:hidden hides an element, but it will still take up the same space as before. The element will be hidden, but still affect the layout. display:none hides an element, and it will not take up any space. The element will be hidden, and the page will be displayed as if the element is not there. source.
Ok, I'm stumped!
If anyone has a suggestion or two on a CSS / JavaScript fix for an IE7 z-index issue on this page without changing the DOM structure much (it's set up for easy tab usage) I'd be incredibly happy to try it out.
On this page, IE7 renders the bar that spans 100% of the width of the page above everything else, while I actually need to cram it very specifically between the text and the hero image (as seen when viewed on any modern browser).
Here's the link.
Thanks.
IE7 has known bugs with z-index, see: IE7 Z-Index issue - Context Menu
In this specific instance, you can fix it by changing a few parts of your CSS. Complete each step and check the progress as you go:
On #container remove position:relative .
The z-index issue is now fixed, but everything is in the wrong position!
On #thumbnails and .pane_img remove these properties: position, top, left, z-index.
On .pane_content, set left:50%; margin-left:-480px; bottom:90px.
On #learn_more_btn and .renova_logo, repeat the left: 50%; margin-left: ??px method to place the elements back where they should be.
