I have installed Windows XP after using nlite to remove certain unneeded components. I have tried this before, only now I've selected the registry edit which makes Windows show the default executable icon instead of the program's default one.
This is not related to icon cache as it's a single registry edit which simply disallows programs to use their own icons. Other icons such as My Computer, My documents etc. work, this affects only the .exe files.
How do I undo this? I am pretty sure it involves registry editing, I just don't know what key I am supposed to change.
I have found the solution.
First, open regedit.exe and then find this key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\exefile\DefaultIcon]
Change the value of (Default) to %1 and refresh the icon cache. Here's how to do it: windows icon cache

I launch RStudio in a Docker container and access to it via the browser in the host OS. I prefer the settings Console on Right and Emacs Key Bindings, so usually check these options by hand in GUI. The container does not share the home directory where .rstudio/ directory stands, every time I destroy the container, those settings are lost.
I suspect there's a options or global configuration files that make my preferable settings default.
How can I configure the default settings of RStudio ?
There's no supported way to do this in RStudio 1.2, but RStudio 1.3 (which will be available soon) makes it possible. You can try a daily build of RStudio 1.3 here:
https://dailies.rstudio.com/
Specifically, you will want to put your settings in /etc/rstudio/rstudio-prefs.json, as described here:
https://docs.rstudio.com/ide/server-pro/latest/r-sessions.html#customizing-session-settings
To figure out what exactly to put in that file to get the layout and keybindings you want, I recommend setting up RStudio the way you want it by hand, then copying the config out of the ~/.config/rstudio/rstudio-prefs.json file.
There is also documentation on everything you can set in the admin guide:
https://docs.rstudio.com/ide/server-pro/latest/session-user-settings.html
(The admin guide is for the professional version, but all of the above also applies to the open source edition.)
I am using a bar code font to display bar code in my crystal report. It's working fine but in one condition
It needs restart of machine after installing bar code font. So it's working good because after installing bar code font I simply restart the machine and it start's work.
But when I uploaded my project on web server the same condition occurs. My service provider installed bar code font on server but, it requires restart of server to take effects which is not possible.
So what is the solution ?
I know that this is a old post.
But i had a issue with using a windows 10 computer with the font not registering even after i restarted the computer.
I found that the issue is that the font didnt get installed into the windows/fonts folder.
I tried dragging it into the correct folder but it still installed in C:\Users\***\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Fonts
I found the a solution is to right click on the font and click install for all users.
That was only way that it installed it in the right folder.
Found in answers.microsoft.com
I know that this is a different issue i just wanted to have the information available for anyone else that comes up with a similar issue.
Although many applications can detect the fonts installed using Drag-n-Drop or Copy-Paste to the Windows\Fonts folder, but Crystal Reports needs the fonts to be registered.
Drag-n-Drop or a copy-paste of font in the Windows\Fonts will not be registered until the system is restarted.
You'll have to ask your service provider to delete the copy/pasted or drag/dropped file from the Windows\Fonts folder and then do a proper install of the font, it will register it without restarting the system.
Typically a font can be installed/registered in the system as follows:
Control Panel > Fonts > File Menu > Install New Font > Select Drive of new font file > Select Folder of new font file > Select New Font File > Select Copy Fonts To Fonts Folder CheckBox > OK
Some options may vary depending on Windows version but procedure will be same. After installing/registering the font just close and re-open your Crystal Reports without restarting the system.

We have built a WebDav Service with your Engine and have a one problem when we create a new Folder or File:
The new folder / file is created successfully, but not showing in the Windows Explorer. Only if you press F5, the new folder / file is showing (and the name is already selected to be edited).
This behavior is reproducible even with a blank WebDav Solution.
We can reproduce this on Windows 7 and Windows 8 (8.1) using WebDav .NET Server 3.8 and the latest 3.9.
Is there a way to get around this “refresh-problem”?
I solved this issue but clicking in the folder explorer at view > options > then i restored to default and everything is back to normal.
I assume this issue is in Windows Explorer on a single computer. Most likely the WebDAV server-side code is failing with with some exception. Here are some ideas how to detect what is wrong:
Unmount network connections executing 'net use * /DELETE' in a command prompt, this will unmount WebDAV connections too and simulate 'clean' environment.
Retry reproducing the issue and examine your WebDAV logfile. By default it is located in /App_Data/WebDAV/Logs/ folder. Are there any exceptions in it?
Use Fiddler tool or any other debugging proxy to capture and examine HTTP requests. Are there any failed requests?
In case you are creating a folder/file on one computer using Windows Explorer (Microsoft Mini-redirector driver) or IT Hit Ajax File Browser and expect the files list to refresh automatically on another computer this would not work. Mini-redirector does not support any notifications from server and WebDAV does not submit any notifications, you need to refresh the files list manually to see the new items created.
I found this video on Youtube that explains in very much detail how to fix this problem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUiCPsQquqc
It is a bit lengthy, so I'll just quickly sum it up here:
The reason for these problems are one or more (broken) Shell Extensions that prevent the refresh of the Windows Explorer
To fix it, open up regedit.exe (requires admin privileges), do a search for the Registry Key "DontRefresh". If it is "1", set it to "0". There might be multiple matches for that Key, so repeat until all Keys have the value "0".
This might not work immediately, you may have to kill and restart your explorer.exe process (easiest to do with the Task Manager). Or you can simply reboot your computer. In my case, it worked immediately.
According to the video, the Keys should only be located under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/CLSID, but in my case I could only find such Keys in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Classes/Wow6432Node/CLSID.
I figured it makes most sense to simply search the complete Registry, it does not take very long.
I tred a lot of hacks, from scanning the system, to recreating the profile to hacking Registry keys and hives.
Finally what worked for me -
Right click on desktop
Select Personalize
Click Themes
Click Change desktop icons
Click Restore default & OK
And instantly it began to auto refresh with a new folder, rename, delete, copy, etc.
I have this iPad app using Storyboard. There are some file that are marked as missing which used to be in the app. The message is really annoying me...
I did a clean, re-build, but they are still there. How do I get rid of the messages?
It sounds like they're still held under version control. The solution for me has been to force remove them via Terminal.
Did you delete them from the filesystem directly (e.g using Finder or the terminal) instead of through Xcode? Your project doesn't mirror the filesystem, so when you delete files externally, Xcode still expects them to be there. Find the references in the project navigator in the left-hand panel and remove them. In future, remove the files through Xcode and it will ask you if the files need to be deleted from the filesystem or not.
If you've already done this and you are still seeing the problem, it's probably an Xcode bug. Quit and reopen Xcode.
For example, in TortoiseSVN, I can find out when a directory is out-of-date or checked out by looking at the images in the corner of the directory icon. However, I don't have that with ClearCase. Inside of Eclipse, I can see what I have checked in/out, but I'm not always inside Eclipse. It appears that I can right click on the file and I see "Check Out..." as an option if the file is not checked out and "Check In..." as an option if the file is checked out.
What I really want are images or icons to let me know visually what I have checked in and out through the Windows Explorer shell. Is this possible?
Currently, this is not done by any tool/plugin I know of, except for ClearCase Eclipse plugin (where a "recursive" option can be set, to show a "dirty" state on packages of a project if one of the files is checked out)
Since ClearCase is managed file-by-file, that would require a recursive request which may not be compatible with the speed a Windows explorer is supposed to refresh itself.
The best way I found to visually indicate which files are checked out or in is to set Windows Explorer to show file attributes for all of your ClearCase folders. Then you can determine which files are checking in or out by looking to see if the files are read-only or not. When the files are checked in, they are read-only; when they are checked out they are not read-only.
I wonder if it'd be possible to do it this way, with a little bit of Perl? Not particularly efficient, but it's a start...
Is there is a way to change a Windows folder icon using a Perl script?
