How to customize a list in Flex mobile application - apache-flex

the thing I mean cannot be probably done with the component, but I don't know how is the component I want called. I would like to achieve a list but with sort of "icon look". You could say some sort of springboard navigation. It would really help me if someone new what I mean.
Here is just a quick sketch in Photoshop how it should look like:

The item is the one actual item in the list or something.
I will appreciate every answer and possible solution, thanks.

Is there any reason you cannot use a DataGroup wrapper around a Scroller with a TileLayout and use the IconItemRenderer?

I'm not that familiar with the mobile version of Flex, but in ordinary Flex this is just a matter of defining a renderrer class for your List control and use a clickable image (or some Image Button class) as the renderrer.

Toolbar overflow in QML

I have a toolbar defined as "toolBar" property of a ApplicationWindow.
When I resize the window I want that toolBar (if it's too large for the current size) handle overflow with a "more" item. After a lot of research I couldn't found anything on the web. I join some screenshot of what I have and what I want.
The second example is something I have done in pure C++.
In my research I also read something about toolbar only handle overflow in MainWindow and that maybe why I can't make it work in ApplicationWindow.
Thanks for your help.
It could be done if you go for a model driven toolbar items.
Then, if the toolbar view is not wide enough to fit everything, you can calculate the index it cuts out at, and implement a drop down menu with another view, this time vertical, that shows only items after the cutout index.
It is not ideal, but since there is no built in support for that, this is by far the easiest and quickest way to get the desired result.

How to move a QPushButton inside gridLayout?

I have just tried a simple thing, in designer I created one push button, inside grid layout. The problem is geometry option got disabled in Property box, and I am not able to change the cordinates. In this situation how should I move the push button from its original place if required?
Can somebody help me to achieve this??
You can't move or resize a widget inside a layout because its position and its size are managed by the layout. If you want to manage its geometry yourself, do not use a layout.
Qt layouts are designed to help you make scalable user interfaces. For this, moving or resizing the button is usually done by the layout using sizeHint() and sizePolicy().
I would suggest reading up on how to use layouts and the use of spacers, as this will impact the location and size of your button.
Well I found a solution to that
Break the Layout, arrange the widgets and then set the layout

Resizing jQueryUI widgets

I am relatively new to jquery UI. I am able to understand the functionality and making use of the widgets. However I find the widgets quite large and clunky and would like to resize them. Specifically I am using a large number of spinners, sliders and choice buttons. I would like to resize these to fit my page but can't figure out any way to do this. Please help.
There is a css file that comes with the widget, you can edit it, or you can overwrite the rules in you css file.

Set Flex Titlewindow background to transparent

I have a modal Flex dialog and want to make the background not of the window itself, but the semitransparent modal indicator transparent. (Yes I tried to convince the client they don't want to do this, but apparently they really want to do it). Is this even possible?
(prefer a solution using Flex 3's TitleWindow, but Spark/Flex 4 TitleWindow is acceptable)
Yeah, I think I phrased the question wrong, but this is the answer I was looking for:
http://www.learnosity.com/techblog/index.cfm/2007/4/25/Disable-the-blur-effect-in-Flex-PopupManager-modal-background
to paraphrase add:
global{
modalTransparencyBlur: 0;
}
to the flex CSS and you're good; You can also make the modalTransparency 0 which will actually do what I said I wanted, but I think I'm going to try to convince my client that disabling the blur is all they needed (they want to be able to read the text under the popups)
(I wanted to disable the background of the PopUpManager not the TitleWindow)
Thanks for the help though.
Sorry not to have a definite answer, but have you tried setting the property
backgroundAlpha="0"
?
For flex 3; have you tried specifying the alpha on the TitleWindow? Based on a quick review of the code; it does not appear to pass the alpha down to the children (such as the close button, title bar, or title bar background.
Using the Spark Architecture; you should be able to do this easily with a custom skin.

Flex Button with one color on left & another on right

I have a Flex button. I need one color on the left and another on the right. I don't need it to be a gradient. Just solid colors. Like green on left & red on right. I really don't want to use an image -- just because it'll probably take me a long time to do it.
The gradients via Flex Properties in Flex Builder seems to apply only vertically, not horizontally.
I also tried to make 2 button, each half width (of original), and putting it into a HBox & really packing them close so they'll look like a single button with 2 colors. It works OK, but I was thinking if there was a better way.
Thanks.
I think the proper way to do something like this is to create a custom component and then override the drawing method and draw in two colors, with the associated properties and such.
The solution you used is the simplest, so you should keep it like that unless you want to go through the trouble of creating the custom component (It's not THAT bad since Flex is open source and you can see how the original button is coded, and modify from there).
you could use degrafa to skin the button
This link http://blog.timeister.com/2009/01/16/flex-custom-button-skin/ provides a nice way to do exactly what I wanted above. It needs 2 classes: one subclasses ButtonSkin & the other Button. Link them both via CSS and use them in mxml. Simple & easy.
