I want to integrate the same registration process that Stack Overflow has into my website. Does anyone know if this is possible and any ways I can go about doing this?
I am using ASP.NET MVC for my site implementation. It would be awesome if someone could point me in the right direction with some examples etc.
You can find out how to use OpenID here.
There's also DotNetOpenAuth.
Edit:
Andrew Arnott also pointed out in the comments that there is a pretty awesome OpenID selector control available. The Stack Overflow question it relates to is here.
Thanks Andrew!

I'm looking to help a friend who needs a website for his project. I know wordpress a little, but there might be better options.
The needs are:
- have a splash screen prompting for region (like this site)
- have some pages available only for a given region.
- allow the non-it guy to update the contents.
Wordpress is the only one I know as web design isn't my specialty. I'd have gone for a template like Avada, but again, better leads are more than welcome.
Thanks in advance for your inputs!
Ok, the downvote really helped me and certainly will help other users as there's no comment whatsoever explaining why this post is bad. Don't give leads or guidance by the way.
So, whatever. I found a solution to this. The following plugin works like a charm:

A simple purchase gives total control and removes the watermark. The best part regarding my need was the capability to write custom callback code as explained in this article.

Thanks in advance.

Both has shown example using DotNetOpenAuth - The former list other library named ExtremeSwank.
I used www.janrain.com and it was simple enough to do.
It also has the advantage of allowing you to use other vendors without any extra - not only gmail.
Oh, and it's free!

I am looking at building the login/registration part of a website (ASP.NET) and would like to see some example code or instructions on how to do this properly. For example, how to correctly use cookies and how to encrypt what is stored in the cookie to ensure the session persists until they logout/timeout.
I do not want to use the builtin ASP.NET Membership/Provider stuff as it looks painful to use and not very flexible. Please do not answer with 'This is how easy the ASP.NET Membership/Providre stuff is to use, just check this out and you will use it!' as I don't want to use it!
Don't get me wrong, I'm just wondering what exactly do you find painful and not flexible about the ASP.NET providers? I've used them a lot and I find them very flexible. I've even written some custom providers which is a straight forward process.
If you don't want to use ASP.NET providers, what are your exact requirements? I might help you out if I understand a bit better what you are trying to achieve.
