Rstudio Resizing off when I using Monitor - r

Hi so I downloaded R and Rstudio for the first time. When I code, I like to use a seperate monitor, but when I dragged RStudio to the monitor, the toolbar shrunk, a black band appears at the top of my screen, and my mouse clicks are off (like to click on something, my mouse had to be above the button instead of on it). This never happened before when I used other IDEs on my monitor. Here are some screenshots! I would appreciate if someone could let me know why RStudio is acting like this. Thanks!

Atom will not let me change focus from the application itself nor from the original editor tab

I am not sure what started it, but now suddenly when trying to use Atom (on Ubuntu Linux), it opens fine, but keeps focus on the upper-left text of the open tab. For instance, if I try to click somewhere else in the file to move, the cursor, the cursor jumps back to the beginning of the file. If I click on another tab to look at a different file, it immediately jumps back to the original tab, upper left corner of the text. If I hit ctrl-f to search for something, focus jumps back to the text editor. If I try to switch to a different application like Chrome or the terminal window, Atom immediately comes back into focus.
Has anyone else run into this behavior or maybe knows what's going on?
I tried purging and re-installing but am still running into the same behavior.
I figured out that the behavior presents itself any time I try to edit a .ts file, at which point it automatically opens a file "child.js" in the TypeScript plugin directory and begins to display this behavior. I updated the TypeScript plugin and that seemed to fix it. Maybe this can be of help to anyone else who runs into the issue. (Bug link: https://github.com/TypeStrong/atom-typescript/issues/1098)

Keep QDialog on top of everything, even fullscreen applications?

On a project I work on, using Python3 + PySide, I try to print a popup-message as some sort of notification.
This popup needs to be on top of everything, this includes fullscreen applications like games or browsers. And that's the point that does not work. It works fine for all windows on my Desktop, normal windows, maximized, but as soon as there is a fullscreen application or a borderless window ("pseudo fullscreen") the popup is created, but "behind" the fullscreen app.
I already use self.setWindowFlags(QtCore.Qt.FramelessWindowHint | QtCore.Qt.WindowStaysOnTopHint) but this flag does get ignored by other fullscreen apps.
How do I fix this? Also without giving focus to the popup.
It is just there to present information, and it is not good when your window looses focus while playing a game.
My code can be found here: https://github.com/GosuSan/PyECM
additional Info:
- my project aims to be cross-platform, so I need a platform-independend solution
- I am running linux, without having a windows machine atm,
so I can't test stuff there.
If you need any more info, let me know!
Edit:
It seems that PySide.QtGui.QSystemTrayIcon.showMessage does what I want, it works on fullscreen as well as on borderless-windows. So I will try to either find out how those messages are displayed on top, or just use them, not sure for now.

Can't open TOOL GALLERIES Illustrator CC on second monitor

I have a laptop and a second display (via HDMI). In Illustrator CC, trial version, I can't open the flyout menus(known also as the 'tool galleries').
I know how they work, but nothing seems to do the trick (click and hold, right click, click on the corner). When I drag Illustrator back on the laptop display, the functionality reappears, the flyout menus work, but I need to use the second monitor.
Is this a bug? How can I fix it?
I have exactly the same issue but I have two monitors and this happens when Illustrator is open on my 'second' monitor.
A work-around is to make the monitor you wish to use Illustrator with your 'primary' monitor in settings (in Windows 8 right click on desktop - screen resolution) - this would be your HDMI display.

clicking or scrolling on terminal outputs text

this is driving me crazy. Everytime I click on the terminal, I get text output but the click does not happen. I can't select anything, scroll on the terminal or perform any mouse operations.
For example, if I click I get things like "TB#TB", which is "TB" when I click and "#TB" when I release the click. If I scroll I get 'UC'` for every scroll of the wheel. Total rubbish.
I'm using cygwin to connect to a redhat machine and it happens only for this one machine. If I connect to a different one, also running redhat, it doesn't happen, so I think the issue is on the remote machine's side. It's also independent of what shell I'm using.
Any ideas?
EDIT: I discovered that pressing shift returns all the usual mouse functionality. I wonder why.
This is more like a "come down to your machine and solve problem"
You must have save default setting for that particular machine to direct it to shift option. As you said shift solves the problem.
You should reset the settings.
go here.
Putty configuration>windows>selection>click on shift overrides application's use of mouse
hope this helps

Custom Application Icon for processing app

I've written a small Processing App which I'm planning to release soon. What's still missing is a sweet custom icon for Titlebar/Taskbar (Win) and Dock (Mac). Any suggestions how to do this?
Thx!
Meanwhile I figured it out on my own:
Obviously this works for Mac OS by replacing the sketch.icns file within the exported app, for win & liunx is done by adding this line to your setup method:
frame.setIconImage( getToolkit().getImage("sketch.ico") );
It depends if you have any artistic ability or not.
If not, then you can hire an icon designer to do one, or search the web for free icons - there are billions.
If you have a modicum of artisticness, then you could grab a free icon that is almost what you want and then tweak it. IcoFX is a great free application for doing this sort of thing.
If you think you have what it takes to draw an icon from scratch, then a good plan is to use a vector art package. This allows you to export the same graphic at multiple resolutions so you can get top quality at every icons size you need (from 16x16 to 256x256). Alternatively, draw a large (512x512) verison in a bitmap editor and then downscale it as required. As long as you start big and downscale, you shouldn't have any problems (although to get a good icon at 16x16 and 32x32 you will still need a good eye and a lot of manual tweaking).
In your code, just type this line:
frame.setIconImage( getToolkit().getImage("sketch.ico") );
For Windows/Linux, this will do it. For Mac/OSX, follow these steps:
Find your sketch in Finder
Right click > info, or CmdI
Find your icon and open it in Preview
In Preview, click on your icon and press CmdA or right click > select all
In Preview, press CmdC, or right click > copy
Go back to Finder. Click on the current icon of your sketch. You'll know you've selected it when a blue outline appears. Press CmdV, or right click > paste
Tips:
The standard icon size is 512x512
When making your icon, make sure that your transparencies are working
